MIG washes and filters help
« on: 26 May 2014, 11:30:22 PM »
Hi, can anyone let me know what sort of varnish is compatible with MIG washes and filters? Could I use Daler Rowney Soluble Varnish? which is my choice of varnish to use on my figures.  I think I once read that D R Soluble Varnish or an Acrylic Varnish were best used, and to avoid enamel varnish on MIG washes for some reason?! Maybe ANY varnish is compatible?

Many thanks.

I use MIG filters over Daler Rowney with no problems, but don't let it pool you will get a white marks where it does sometimes.

If your final varnish is solvent/white spirit based, then there is some risk of reactivating the Mig enamel based products.

How long you allow the Mig stuff to cure before final varnishing might be a factor if you do decide to go this route.

I use an acrylic based varnish because it's safer on several levels; toxicity and risk of messing up my weathering. I always wait a couple of days after my last go at weathering to allow everything I've done so far a chance to dry, settle, cure, harden, react...
