'Day 8...
After an initial rush of enthusiasm - resulting in unexpectedly rapid progress towards the interior - the expedition suddenly encountered debilitating tropical conditions giving rise to such lethargy that progress slowed to a crawl, and thence almost to a standstill... '
No. 30 - Foundry 'Darkest Africa' Hunter / AdventurerI've had this figure primed and knocking around for at least 15 years.
He was from one of Copplestone's very first Darkest Africa packs for Foundry. I painted all the rest of that pack at the time, but for some reason never painted this character. So the expedition is an ideal opportunity to put that right!
Most of the characters in that particular pack were modelled on specific literary / historical figures. But I could never work out who this one was supposed to be. Someone from H Rider Haggard perhaps? Not clean cut enough for Allan Quatermain though...
For some reason, I got the idea in my head that this character was a long haired American? Perhaps a renegade from the Confederacy?
Having just checked back, in the Foundry pack, his name is given as 'Enfield' - although he appears to be armed with a Martini-Henry, so I don't know what that signifies, and am still none the wiser...
Answers on a postcard please...

Anyway, here he is... Like all Copplestone sculpts - a joy to paint, and incredibly easy to paint. I really wish the great man was still churning them out in 28mm...
