Is it awful of me that my favourite thing is the little prickly pear?

It's not that I don't like the rest, I love it, it's just that it's such a cool little setting touch that instantly and almost effortlessly gives a sense of place to the figure.

Number 40 - The Stalwart Sikh Sepoy

Famed as a member of the 'martial races' fighting as part of the Anglo-Indian army in the second half of the 19th Century, this brave Sikh soldier is prepared to stand firm in the face of unspeakable odds in defence of the British Empire. In September 1897, 20 of these soldiers led by a Havildar, faced off against thousands of swarming Pathan tribesmen who were attacking forts and outposts all over the Samana range on the NW Frontier. The Sikhs defended Saragarhi signalling station for 7 1/2 hours against constant attack, with no hope of relief, dying to the last man.

The expedition surely needs men of this calibre!

This is a Foundry figure. It was painted in my now customary style, on a white undercoat using single layer base coats followed by a brushed-on coat of Army painter Strong Tone dip. The base colours were then used to apply a single highlight before a good coat of Testor's Dullcote was applied to matte the whole thing down.

Apologies for the size of the pic...I am trying to get used to editing pictures on my Mac, after years using a windows PC...and I'm not very good at it yet
