Daemonscape vehicles - now with snowtroopers!
« on: 07 June 2014, 12:30:10 PM »
First models painted for about six months - I picked up some Daemonscape resin vehicles.  I believe they're the old GZG 25mm range, but they're fine with modern 28s.  All these vehicles are 12-14cm, so pretty hefty models.  And very cheap - these three cost £28.

Bit of cleanup required on the shuttle - some filing and filling, but the tracked vehicles just needed some sanding.  Nice kits, fast delivery and I'd buy from them again in a heartbeat.

First ever use of an airbrush (cheap Chinese eBay brush and compressor set).  Blu-tak camo pattern and freehand on the darker green.  Not bad, but I can see I have a whole new hobby and lots of practice ahead of me.

I painted a heavy grey edging on the detail - that and the windows gives them a cartoony look that I kind of like.  Letters are stick-on vinyl.

And a shuttle on my trademark plastic party tumbler flight stand ;)  The edging is a little wobbly - no practice for six months, and grey on black is unforgiving.

You've done a crackin' job on those crawlers  :-*

Are you going to add decals to the skimmer? It looks a bit plain at the moment (nice paint though).

What a bloody good idea for a flight stand! I commend you on your ingenuity :D.

Decals on the skimmer - yeah, good idea!

The "flight stands" are 4 for £2.00 at the local party shop - throw away the separate cup bit and glue a magnet on the top.

Although I should have kept one for my margaritas  :(

This stuff is brilliant, really great work.  The crawlers are extra nice.  Do you have a shot alongside dome 28mm infantry by any chance?

The edging on the black isnt that wobbly from where I am sitting.  I do think that a slightly darker grey might give a better result though.  I had the same issue with painting black for years but pulling the highlight grey back towards black a bit did the trick for the same painting technique.  GW Mechanicum Standard Grey, sometimes with a black wash and a reapplication on the corners works well for me.

Not that it really needs its anyway.  The flight stand is a little bit of genius too.  Really cool stuff :)

The grey IS the new mechanicus grey base colour, with Dawnstone (= old Codex Grey) at the corners, but it's against a straight black.  I may have to dial it back towards the old Charadon Granite, or possibly highlight the whole model with the same so it's less of a deep black to edge against.  Thanks for the suggestions - I can always go over  the edges again.

Bizarrely, it's the same grey I edged the crawlers with - colours really do change depending on what they're placed against!

Y'know, I had a feeling that you were going to say that as soon as I opened my big mouth :D

Thanks for the comparison photos.  I am looking for something similar at the moment.

Nice crawlers. They'd make good colonist vehicles for an Aliens setting.

It's noticeably cheaper to buy direct from their website.

And it's all your fault!  They're rides for your snowtroopers  lol
