Small ship/boat
« on: 24 June 2014, 11:42:21 AM »
Does anyone have any ideas where I can get a small/cheap boat suitable for ww1 games, mainly to act as a lighter or light gunboat?

My scratch building skills are not up to the challenge!!

Can't remember how cheap it is, but Old Glory does an HMS Mimi/Toutou that scrubs up pretty nicely. It's what you might call a large motorboat, or you could call it a small gunboat.

Here's a rather poor attempt at painting one by yours truly, done a very long time ago, when LAF was still a tiny baby website (and was beige instead of green):

Don't forget that Old Glory has a UK outfit with its own website. That's where I got mine from.

Bryan drop me an email and I'll talk you through making one. You can make the one pictured for nothing !only using household bits and bob's,in about three hour's.

Old Glory have a table full of boats at Scarborough
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Mark, that is looking awesome, I've started the hull but haven't got as far as I wanted yet due to being late from work almost every day last week.  But I am now well and truly inspired to get back on it!!!

Thanks, but its not hard to do,The methods and tricks I sent you for the hull, are the same for the super structures(and there only boxes,no curves).
Once you've made one this size. A motor patrol boat will take three hour's.
The gun's can be very simple to do,even more so in a turret.

:D Thanks for the PM's.I should have added in the last post.
It cost nothing to make. Its made from 1large cereal box,2 cocktail sticks.1 old paint brush handle, toilet tissue, and the card from the back of an A4 lined paper pad.
I used pva and uhu to construct it.
hope that helps.

Have a look here
http://www.miniaturefigurines.co.uk/Catalogue.aspx?ScaleID=15&CategoryID=61&SubCategoryID=313

1st one I have converted for just what you describe. Torp tubes and boiler/stack are separate (or were on the one I got a couple of years ago).
Grand Manner and Pulp Miniatures do some nice deck guns IIRC
