Painted Pulp Stuff... OK...Weird War too.
« on: July 04, 2014, 07:54:38 PM »
I'm going to add pics of paint jobs for our Pulp/Weird War endeavors here...
Starting with this...

Pretty new to vehicles and have been using the sponge paint technique to simulate airbrushing.  Starting to love it.  Early war Tiger I next!

Thanks folks!

Here's a link with examples and at the bottom is a link to the "way back machine" with a tutorial...Sort of.  Pretty simple though...

http://fieldsoffireonline.freeforums.org/bravo-six-s-20mm-moderns-t2094.html?hilit=truck#p18630

I just primed the vehicle.  Then painted it in the basic colour I wanted.  After that a wash.  On the truck I used a chestnut wash.  Then get one of those triangle, dense makeup sponges.  Dab it in the original colour but remove most of the paint, dry-brush-like.  Start dabbing.  It leaves all the cracks dark and gives a smooth air-brush look.  Use a lighter colour to hi-lite with the same dabbing technique.  I added a couple of yet lighter hard line hi-lites at the end.  Make sure your sponge has hardly any paint on it.  Once you try it it becomes fairly self explanatory.

Thanks to Mr. Peabody for turning me on to this.  Maybe he can post a better tutorial as I can't find the original one I read.

Here's the tank WIP...

Looking ace!

I paint base coat with brush, then slop on a burnt umber wash, DAB it off with a cotton rag/kitchen paper, let dry, and layers of super dry dry brushing. :) who needs a fancy air brush? lol

Cheers
Matt

Yeah... Rather similar to your fab outcomes Gary, here's my humble offerings..

I liked the tutorial I was suggested from Bob Letterman. He is a patient genius:

Hardly humble!  That stuff is da' bomb!  Great work!

That is an amazing tutorial.  He has the patience of a saint!  I have the patience of a minor demon at best.

Agreed! Haha. But I'm very impressed with his results and like how smooth and convincing the final product is. Worth it I'd say. You can cut corners and wash larger sections at once, and drybrush with a more extreme highlight to make it faster but it does sacrifice quality a little. ;) yours looks great though, and pretty similar I think. :D find a workflow that works for you Gary.
