Real Paved Roman Road (Maritime Alps)
« on: 10 July 2014, 03:18:47 PM »
Here some pictures of a real ancient paved roman road I personally visit sometime (I have a small apartment in Limone Piemonte, just some few km from the road), this road is in the "Colle di Tenda", a high mountain pass in the Alps, close to the border between France and Italy. The road was first developed by Phoenicians and later maintained by Greeks and Romans.

Usually this road is used from trekkers.

That is great. You are lucky to have such things around you.  :)

That's a great road you've there! :)

Unfortunaly, it's rather hard to reproduce this in scale unless you include some flocking work, which is critical for a good result! :S

We have paved roads in America which disappear within 8 years if someone doesn't patch them or trim the verge...ridiculous.  Imagine that, proper construction and stone lasts a bit longer eh? :D

That's why Engineers make the big denarii !!

& some poor sod of a Legionaire, along with the pioneers & sappers, had to make that Engineer's plan a reality.

We don't, can't, won't, build a living lasting timeless pathway these days.

Progress?

YMMV

To be fair, you don't see many vehicles or transport trailers driving at 120kph on those roman roads...   ;D
