Broadsword Adventures FREE demo now available
« on: 01 August 2008, 05:04:55 AM »
Over three years in the making, we are proud to introduce the latest demo offering from Rattrap Productions...

Broadsword Adventures: Savage Tales of Fantasy.

Broadsword Adventures, like the other Rattrap Games is a heroic skirmish game. Players take on the role of the hero and his loyal followers. With just a handful of miniatures required you don't need to paint up a full army before you can start playing.

Like all the demo versions of our games, these rules are free to download. In this 26 page download, you get all the basic rules of the game as well as one of the scenarios from the book and some sample characters to get you started.

Though the rules are written for fantasy, the archetypes are easily adaptable to Ancients, Dark Ages and Medieval gaming.

The full version of this book, along with all the miniatures we are releasing with it, will be available at GenCon in just two weeks. The full rulebook will retail for $20.00.

You can get the demo version of the rules from our Speakeasy Forum.

Thanks for that, the new rules are due out some time soon?

New rules will be on sale at GenCon starting August 14. They will be up in the webshop starting August 18.

I'll also be offering a discounted Book/PDF combo for those who like both.

Fantastic! I've only read the scenario at the end so far, but I like the story of the Ungeheuers' origins. Makes it clear that they're not "Ogres" straight out of a D&D-type setting, but cursed, twisted humans. Very suitable to the pulp fantasy atmosphere of the game.
"When to keep awake against the camel's swaying or the junk's rocking, you start summoning up your memories one by one, your wolf will have become another wolf, your sister a different sister, your battle other battles, on your return from Euphemia, the city where memory is traded." - Italo Calvino

The main rulebook won't go to heavy into setting. We're going to save that for the follow-ups. :)

However, one thing that I changed from the other books is the introduction to each of the scenarios provides a little "history" lesson and not just the immediate history prior to the start of the scenario. The world starts to flesh itself out but not so much that you can't disregard it and just use Hyboria or any other fantasy setting you wish.

If you take a look at the TOC you'll see what archetypes will be available.

Many thanks, that's what I call customer service! :-*
Your example scenario got me into seriously thinking about using my few Migration Period warriors and Late Romans for some Nibelungen adventures. Hm... ::)

Though I can't read all of the copy (my Spanish being very rusty), KeyanSark did manage to put together a good representation of the demo rules.

I have downloaded and read the demo rules. I like what I have read. There is plenty of combat options, but doesn't appear to overly complex (always a bonus). It appears to be almost like a RPG cross mini game - well it could be. o_o
It is on my shopping list.

TT.

Thanks a million for another wonderful game. Time to go back to fantasy miniatures (which suits me fine, as I've finished more or less all my pulp ones...).

Here is a nice little promo video:

I think Peter gets the Rattrap web site a little wrong at the end of the video.

You can check out all of the GenCon 2008 coverage on the dedicated page I have for it

It was quite nice to see the Rattrap folks and also get a look at painted samples of the Broadsword minis. Very nice sculpts and very nicely painted as well.

There are some shots of them specifically on the site
