Jämi Warbirds Fly-in (Picture heavy)
« on: July 20, 2014, 04:37:16 PM »
Thought I'd share a few pics from this weekend. I went to an annual warbirds fly-in here in Finland this weekend to take a few photos and drool over the old planes flying around. There were a few simulated dogfights between a Fokker Dr.I and a RAF S.E.5a and a Swedish Tummelisa. A Spitfire IX also made an appearance doing stunt flying and simulated dogfights against a AT-6 Texan. Also flying was the only remaining Gloster Gladiator Mk. II in flying condition (No pics as the finnish airforce insignia isn't allowed here) Pretty amazing stuff eventhough we got to experience the traditional Finnish summer weather with a sudden thunderstorm brewing up and ceasing all flight for a few hours.

In addition to flying beasts there were quite a few planes just on the ground and also quite a few ground vehicles too such as a M3 half-track, BMP1 & 2S1. Also quite a few reenactors with mainly Finnish and German WW2 uniforms around, but also a few US and British Paras in addition to two cannons and crew dressed up as the Royal Finnish Artillery Regiment from the Russo-Swedish war of 1808 in Finland.

Quite a few more pics in my blog (with the ones that aren't allowed here).

Went to a warbirds show in Oostmalle (Belgium) ages ago. Had the time of my life. Even got to enter the plane used to film Memphis Belle (which wasn't all that exciting since they removed most of the interior to accomodate filming equipment  :?)

Yeah I guess we can be lucky that there's something like this here :) Too bad that a few planes didn't arrive. Would have loved to see a Hawker Hurricane in Finnish camouflage as it was a rather important plane for us during WW2, but alas it wasn't to be as they hadn't been able to fly all the test flights in time. Maybe next year :)

Grand show - the dogfight pics are brilliant, especially the one over the tree tops.
Loads of grand stuff on the blog - thanks for the treat.  8)
