Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

hubbabubba - I know what you mean about John Blanche. I confess I really like some of his work and not others. His early non-GW stuff is great, and I like his black and white illustrations from the early days of Wahammer. His mid 1990s stuff doesn't do it for me, but I quite like a lot of the Inquisitor related illustrations. I am a huge fan of his miniatures though - the selection of parts and imaginative results is staggering. I've actually got a small number of his 25mm Minifigs sci fi miniatures from the 1970s. His painting technique is very cleverly economical - unimportant areas barely get more than a base coat, but faces and other important stuff gets lavished with ink and detailing!

Here's Wyrm with his fellow cultists:

Wyrm is damn impressive. But my fave is still the MooCow with the rearranged face. A great thought process for the mutation.
But Wyrm looks so simple but complicated. Though i wonder how he wipes his ass when needed. :-)

Latest off the painting conveyor is a squad of Arbites for a game in a few weeks time (they'll be standing off against some genestealer cultists):

No converting or fancy paint schemes - just something functional and eye-catching (not that unlike the Arbites themselves I guess!). I'm pretty pleased with how well the two eras of models work together - they look like different specialists perhaps.

More photos and words in the blog.

Nice work on the arbites. They certainly have a police-y look to them!

Thanks guys.

Scurv - they might well be flatter than the other figures - is it the paint job or just overall look? If it's the former then it might be down to a quicker paint job with less highlighting, plus my front light in my photography set up broke, so they only have lighting from behind.

Well the Arbites are 'flatter' in general, they don't have the skin wrinkles and random spotting and flecks of the chaos creatures.

I think they look good, but then again I paint pretty flat myself.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

A current project is to make some stalls for a market on some Imperial backwater world. In progress is a Xenos Pet Trader - last night I painted up a selection of his stock:

Will you make the fence electrified with a power generator plugged in or something similar?

The chaotic squad is really great : a nice mix of classic scifi, cthulu and demoniac flavour !

The arbites, with their white helmet just appears as they should : some kind of autoritary hard boiled scifi police  :D

really interesting topic !
