Hastily painted and assembled French MMG. I made the mistake of baking it in the oven when the base was drying... everything turned yellow due to the varnish reacting somehow. So a quick afterbrush was necessary.

I actually started this force as part of my 2013 Army Painters thread, but never finished. The miniatures were churned out at quite a pace, but still I failed to deliver.

I have been contemplating WWI since 2001... and now when it's finally in season I can't find the enthusiasm! So my hordes of WWI figures are stood unpainted on shelves or lying in boxes.

This absolutely brilliant, Thorbjorn.
The posing on those figure put me instantly in mind of a French version of Thomson and Thompson.
As Delboy would say: C'est magnifique!

Russian Sergeant сержант of the famous shock troops. This little fellow was sculpted by my all time favourite artist Mike Owen for the Storm in the East Range by Brigade Games. While the Adrian helmet wasn't all that popular with the russian soldier and definitely wasn't available in sufficient numbers I think it's reasonable to equip my elite tsarist russian/ white russian troops with the one or other to better distinguish from the regular footsloggers. The rather unusual weapon is a German Mauser C96 (cal. 7,63mm or 9mm Parabellum) sporting the so called "Anschlagbrett/ -schaft" (broomhandle). It wasn't as popular as the famous Pistole 08 or better known as "Luger" with thte German Army but saw widespread use in the tsarist and later bolshewik armies.
