Victorian Adventures
« on: 28 July 2014, 07:02:21 PM »
I don't mean in general, I mean the specific paperback roleplay book (I played it in the 80's but who knows when it was written), with the title 'Victorian Adventures'; does anyone else remember it?

I ask because I was clearing out some old books and found it in a box. It's completely ace and yet completely naff at the same time. The illustrations are awful, truly comically bad, and some parts of the book aren't even printed properly, they have words clumsily written in with ink, before the pages are printed (photocopied?).

My brother and I had lots of fun playing the game all the same and enjoyed hours of laughing at the pictures.
'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

Rings a bell, but the peal is indistinct, as from a great distance.

Can you recall anything else? [Edit: bound paperback, or pamphlet? Rough size?]

One thing, are you sure that's the title, or could that be a subtitle?

I suppose the question I should have asked was: staples?  ;)

Here we go, the front cover, the character sheet and an example of some special drawing. Despite the hilarious pictures and general shabbiness, it actually played really well and was lots of fun.

Sorry, my clouded vision didn't have any images on the front.

I'm disappointed I missed that, back in the day!

Thanks for yet another item on the gamer's bucket list...  lol

I wonder if he ever did anything else? I wonder if he's alive? With such a rare name it should be easy to track him down I reckon.

I'd love to spruce it up a bit and do my own illustrations.

Biography from http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stephen-Jennison-Smith/e/B0034QC14A

I have written 18 books so far, and the role playing game Victorian Adventure.

The Crying Pennant was published by Haford leisure in 1996 and was online for 2 years. The book is humorous and parodies D&D and 'The Lord of the Rings' and fantasy in general. I decided to write the sequel based in the science fiction dimension, then another and have now finished the seventh in the series. There are other collections of stories based in the Arth universe that you can look out for. My flash fiction is on Wattpad, you can find short stories and flash fiction there as well as works in progress. (stephenjennisonsmith)

Kendra is a Christian fantasy about a Nephilim, a half angel, who lives in the Bosom of Abraham and travels to the earth. The sequel is called 'The 24' and I am working on the third called 'Kendra and the Wolf-Master'.

The Theran Chronicles starts with The Sun Thief. I have used my daughter's Victorian Adventure character to star in this adventure. I have written the second and third in the trilogy and a couple of novelettes.

On the off chance you AREN'T pulling our leg, actually, sounds like he's just quoting the Amazon biography.

I see the Victorian Adventure [Society] is available!  :D Via Kindle.  >:(

Oh I see it now. I guess Craig just cut and paste the info.

That would have been a neat coincidence if after all this time it turned out the writer had been one of us for years.
