WH The Great War Gallipoli lists?
« on: 08 August 2008, 07:11:53 PM »
I'd like to discuss ideas for cooking up home brew lists to tide us over 'til the Gallipoli and Over The Top supps. emerge.  Mike said in his battle reports that he used the Late War Brit lists, but would the early war lists make more sense for 1915?

A few things that strike me as having potential to include:

* Snipers (can probably work with the 40K rules for this)
* Home-made bombs instead of grenades (some sort of reliability/misfire table would be nice)
* Poor Strategy rating for the allies to reflect overall incompetence at the higher levels
* Periscope rifles (weren't they invented at Gallipoli?)
* Assault waves with declining morale for each wave
* German Battalion command for the Turks

Early on there were home-made bombs, but proper grenades did get to the Dardanelles eventually (the troops were there for the greater part of a year). Don't know about Mills Bombs, but Hale's grenades were used, including rifle grenades. All depends when exactly your game is set.

Don't think I'm ready to do early versus late Gallipoli lists at this point. I think it would be best to presume include everything that would eventually get there for a proto-type list.

I think I probably also would want to do an ANZAC list for the allies. What do you think about substituting Light Horse for Highlanders in such a list as representing elite units?
