Mythic Celts from Alternative Armies WIP
« on: 21 August 2014, 08:35:36 PM »
This fellow if the first of a small warband I'm putting together for fantasy skirmish gaming. He's not quite done - still some highlighting and shading to get to before detailing the base and varnishing, but I figured I'd share him as a work-in-progress. More pics on my blog at http://apileofoldlead.blogspot.com/2014/08/first-of-celts.html

Warning - the rear shot on the blog is mildly NSFW. Apart from his belt and armwear, he's going into battle skyclad...

Comments and suggestions welcome - Thanks for looking!

Nice work. Is he from the Erin line?  I've got about 7 of their Sidhe figs and they are really well nice figures.

I'm pretty sure he is from the Erin line, but I couldn't find a picture of him on their site, so he's either in one of the "Image not available" packs or I'm wrong. He came in a big eBay lot with a bunch of other figures, and the rest of his companions are from the Erin line, so I'm sticking him in there as well!

Good to know.  I got my Sidhe in a random bin-of lead that a buddy and I picked up at Little Wars.  It's wonderful when you get such surprises.

Thanks for the link - I'm pretty sure I have all the minis in the pack this guy came in somewhere in the lead pile. Thanks to everyone for the comments. I'll be posting more figures from the warband as I finish painting them.

I wasn't sure what to do for the woad when I started painting, so I actually finished the face in regular flesh tones first, using Reaper MSP and Coat d'Arms paints. The base skin is a mix of MSP Tanned Skin and CdA Suntanned Flesh, shaded with CdA Rat Brown and highlighted with MSP Pale Skin and Bleached Bone. The woad is several glazes of old, old Citadel Colour blue ink, from the original expert paint set (I recently found a box of my 25+ year old paints while cleaning out my grandmother's basement - Most of them were still perfectly usable!). I had to clean up the highlights a little bit with a mix of the MSP Bone and blue ink, but it's largely just a glaze of ink over a fully painted face.
