Terrain colors

Knowing full well that I see different colors of the water in nature when flying into Oahu, visiting the beaches of Florida or SoCal, or walking along a lake or river like the Mississippi/Missouri/Meramec I still ask this question:

What colors do you use and what detail do you add to represent terrain, (this will be 15/18 mm,) when you paint:

A Stream?

A River?

A Lake?

The Ocean?

Rocky Soil?

A Freshly Plowed Field?

A Jungle Floor?

Sandy Soil?

Grassy Ground?

Mud?

And, of most importance currently to me, a Marsh or Swamp?

Um... Could you not just use the Search function on LAF to find this out? 

LAF is a great source of exactly this sort of subject, and lots of people have carefully detailed their projects all over the forum.

Yep, I could and then spend a lot of time with false hits given the nature of search engines.

As an example, a general search on LAF gave these hits:

I would go with whatever you are happy with. In nature the river may be brown but on the tabletop I use three shades of blue, dark for the deep, mid for the middle and light for the shallow. It may not be correct but it looks to good to me and every one can tell its a river.

Yeah that is the thing, isn't it? White Dwarf always had nice blue rivers back in the day all made out of textured plaster...

I think if you want to have a different colour water 'feature', you have to make sure that it is clear that it is water, so using water effects or Gloss varnish to give it a watery sheen, is a must.

I've seen people use cellophane and even light panel covers for convincing river water effects here on LAF too.

A light panel Kickstarter has just completed https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1750773027/water-tiles He did really well and kindly left the video up for all to see how to do it.  Well worth the $1 entry point - shame new folk cannot send the money in now...

You can buy ceiling light panels with that exact texture for pretty cheap. I imagine giving it an ink wash wouldn't be the hardest thing to do.
