Quick question from me if anyone can help, I don't know much about the history of this period, who would have fought the Piemonte infantry and the new bersagleri?
Well quite a few:
- 1855 Crimea Vs the Russians in
- 1859 Second War of Indipendance (in fact Franco-Austrian war) of course Vs The Austrians
- 1860 Campaign in the South of Italy against the Pontifical Army at Castelfidardo, Ancona , Perugia ecc
- 1860 as Emir Said participated at the final phases of Volturno Battle..but from then quite a few fights interesting Vs the Neapolitans at Macerone, Mola di Gaeta, Civitella ecc..this phase is also interesting because  they had to fight vs the best Neapolitan troops that had not deserted and were reformed (Foreign Regiments and Cacciatori mainly) and even Vs armed peasants
- 1862 they even managed to fight Vs Garibaldi himself and wounding him at Aspromonte
- 1861-70 Vs Brigands...a lot of fights..more casualties and more units involved that during the whole Risorgimento..
- 1862-70 Some Skirmishes at the border of Lazio vs Pontifical Zouaves and Pontifcal Line Infantry that stopped the probe of a Bersaglieri Company into Pontifical State
- 1866 Third War of Indipendance again Vs Austrians
- 1870 entered Rome and had some firefight Vs Pontifcal Zouaves manning the walls

I forgot about Crimea !
Thanks for filling out the details Italwars...I'm a bit sketchy after 1859. My introduction to this period was "Solferino" by Patrick Turnbull and 15mm Piedmontese and Austrians from Feudal Castings. Then I saw the light and moved to 28's and along came this range a few years ago.

Niche...but who cares...more please!

not only they are nice sculpts and with the most iconic uniform of the Piedmontese Army..but, as it had been well represented in the miniature, even at this scale, the Bersaglieri were the only ones  armed with a rifled weapon..a little bit shorter than the Line Infantry  smooth musket...in wargame situation it could be interesting to diferentiate their fire power (mainly the range)...In a recent book that i read the commanding officer of the Irish Saint Patrick understrenght Btg  that defended Ancona (among other things a unit also produced on this same range by Gringo) told that they were capable, from castle walls and building's windows, and thank to their modern carbines, of picking targets at distance among the advancing Piedmontese that could'nt reply ..only exceptions being the Bersaglieri equipped also with rifled weapons..and probably better shooters than the the rest of the Piedmontese Army..

Italwars - do you know of any English sites that cover these battles in detail? With Ged's Piedmontese now available I'd like to find out more about encounters between them and the Neapolitans.

Unfortunatly not Emir..the reason is that also in Italian there is very scant info..mine is taken from antiquarian/archive sources..the only exception being an article on a British Wargame Magazine  during the Eighties.....the article is very basic but there is a battle map of Macerone...anyway if you contact me privatly i can do, time permitting, some scans for you of a selection of my sources, above all the few battle maps, translate/write you down some few notes about the battles and troops involved  and send you a PDF including scans of the above mentioned article.
