A triple whammy for you at the outset of this final Kickstarter week.  First up, time for the final Monster Monday reveal.  Behold, the Shoggoth!

While we used to consider the Formless Thing a catch-all for tentacled horrors, during the 2nd Edition development process it was decided that a monster this iconic really did need it's own profile.  Check the Project Update for 1st Edition-compatible playtesting stats: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/443527920/strange-aeons-2nd-edition/posts/1030951

We've also unlocked another Stretch Goal.  The Ghostly Girl has been added to the Graveyard Box, and will be cast up in the same translucent green as our past ghosts (actual test cast to be shared when we've got it ready).  There's no specific profile attached to this model, so she can be used as any type of Ghost you see fit.

And finally, we surpassed 250 Backers yesterday afternoon.  As a result, all Backers will now be receiving a free copy of the Morbid Adventures PDF in addition to their free 1st Edition Rulebook PDF at the conclusion of the campaign - plenty of extra scenarios to keep you occupied in the dark months as you wait for the 2nd Edition to arrive!

I'm just wondering, could you explain in a little more detail how solo play works?

This might be the coolest kickstarter ever!

Regrettably I haven't tried it myself (rather daft, considering I've spent the last month sitting at home by myself watching the Kickstarter!), but Mike or Basement Dweller should be able to fill you in next time they pass through.

In other news - these unpainted Shoggoth shots have proved popular elsewhere, thus I shall share them here as well:

Regarding solo play Oldben1, the game is card driven to direct the actions of the Lurkers. The cards tell you who to activate and their actions that turn (for the Lurkers, you as the player control the Threshold).  The idea was to create a semi-intelligent opponent that will surprise you sometimes.  This can be through random actions, a random bonus/negative or mission specific actions and bonuses.

The system accounts for the fact that an "artificial intelligence" bad guy will always perform worse than the player will...which is kinda nice as who wants to get worked over by a deck of cards...but you also want a challenge.  The extra rules that are being finalized give the bad guys enough of a boost to surprise the player and not allow you to beat the system and win every time.

I also think the solo games keeps the flavor and feel of playing Strange Aeons, but is different enough to make lurkers work when controlled by cards and dice.  It works well to try out some new Threshold and Lurkers lists but also allows you to play a full campaign without leaving your own dark basement...or wherever you call home.

Hope that helps...please feel free to ask more questions...not sure if I will get whipped or punished for talking so this might be the last you hear from me...

Elton.

Hey, I get whipped repeatedly in the KS comments whether I do or don't talk!  Going to need therapy when this thing is over...  ;D

Oh Kickstarter comments...the wastebucket of Kickstarter. Really, how can people even think manufacturers reply to ALL comments there???
For example, Shadows of Brimstone has close to 100.000 comments and people get angry when they don't get replies lol

Been away for months (about 8), thought I would check out the Uncle Mikes Site for some new stuff and lo and behold its a kickstarter campaign for 2nd ed, of course I had to back it so got the Early Bird Agent, last one too!

So pleased this is doing well, it's looking awesome, and so glad I spotted it before the campaign ended.

With only a few days to go in the campaign, it's finally time to add our PayPal based pledges to the funding total.  This brings us to just shy of $46,000, which means we've unlocked another Stretch Goal.  Now available: the Lair of Cthulhu Box, featuring the Bob Murch-sculpted Crypt of Cthulhu.

We've also revealed two new Stretch Goals.  More info in the latest Campaign Update.
