Space Ships??
« on: December 07, 2006, 09:47:16 PM »
There seems to be a lack of quality 'Spaceships' for gamers/modellers.

I'm not interested too much in Star Wars or Star Trek ships, but am really looking for an IN SCALE drop ship thingy...

Ideally, it would be a gritty looking ship, like you might see in Firefly, or Riddick, or Aliens...not retro-rocket or Flash Gordon type of stuff.

There are a few really cool Scratchbuilt things, but I never see any available kits?

Anyone have suggestions?

*edit* by IN SCALE...I mean to fit with the 28-32mm minis.

Actually...not to sound quarrelsome...but a 25mm scale retro-rocket is just what I'd like...something about the size of the Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company's submarines...if it had an open cabin that my "Dick Garrison" figures could stand in, so much the better!

Grif: Check out Starship Modeler

Also, have a look at Space Ship One is a real spacecraft the was in the news a while back, it has quite a retro look, and even name!

supervike: There was a pretty huge Dropship for Mech Warrior available in my local Travelling Man that I have seen converted for 28mm scale! More Photos! I don't know if its still available though. :(

Starship Modeler is quite good. I've been thinking of buying the E.S.S. Arrow model and converting is to a diorama based on a novel I've been trying to write for ages.

The only thing I dislike is that (as usual) most of the models are far beyond my budget. I really do not want to spend 100 dollars on a model, one I'm only going to convert anyway.

I've got a couple of sketches for a small troop dropship, a little bit bigger than a GW Rhino.

The Dauntless OTL (Orbital Transport, Light) dropship is a conversion of the Dauntless Scout Bomber frame. The Dauntless, an obsolete and slow fleet bomber, is still one of the most robust and long-ranged light vehicles in the fleet. Removing the bomb launcher and internal magazine creates a space large enough for 12 passengers, or four heavy power armor suits, or one small vehicle. The forward bomb launcher port is replaced with a loading ramp.

The Dauntless retains its triangular cross-section and two-man crew, though the Weapons Officer station behind the pilot now faces to the rear of the ship. The twin forward-facing light cannons are low in the hull, which can make firing during loading or offloading very dangerous to the passengers.

This one originally came from Snapdragon (via Dentatus).

I am about to repaint it so it looks like one of my cats and then the SS Pookiebear will see regular Star Mogul action.

I saw this and thought it had lots of possibilties for conversion. It is BIG ( the minis in the pick are 2 1/2 "). The cockpit could be made smaller by painting the rear panels. Kind of reminds me of the Aliens Drop Ship.

It's called the Dragonhawk and is made by hasbro for their g.i. joe series.
