It's too quiet...
« on: October 02, 2014, 08:45:16 AM »
Back in April I was asked by the owner of Scenery Workshop if I could make a base using some of the products he sells: Juweela bricks and Modelmates weathering products. Of course, always like a good challenge! So I thought of a diorama with a ruined house next to an old road with some miniatures. I started building with a lot of enthusiasm...but then it stalled...it stalled HARD. Building a house with 2000 bricks wasn't fun...not at all :D. But I worked on and in the end I had results! The house was done, so time to work on the rest of the base.
After building came painting and adding foliage. Always a fun stage and on this diorama it was no exception. I added loads of grass tufts by MiniNatur and Polak Models and also some poison ivy by MiniNatur and Army Painter. With some fine turf I simulated moss.
To make the base a bit more sci-fi I wanted to do something crazy with the water. So I took Envirotex Lite and tinted it with Vallejo Fluorescent Green and Secret Weapon Sewer Water. The result was a crazy green water. Perfect as chemical sludge, radioactive goo or molten Dipsy.
I used the Modelmates Weathering liquids a lot on the diorama and the stuff is awesome, especially Track Dirt. That stuff is beyond amazing. So easy to apply and the results are spot on.

So now the base is done and I 'only' have to paint the three miniatures. If you have any questions, let me know!

 :o :o :o

Bloody brilliant!
Absolutely wonderful bit of modelling, sir.
I tip my hat to you.
 :D :-* :-* :-* :D

I must get me some of that ivy.
I already have the Modelmates stuff and agree that it is wonderful, easy to use stuff.
Will have to check out the rest of your 'ingredients'.
 :D

But.....2000 individual bricks!
I fear for your sanity.
I mean, look what has happened to Bibbles.......dribbling in the corner talking to himself and all sorts.
Be careful!

Awesomesauce !
 :-* :-* :-*

Modelmates' stuff is amazing indeed. I'm really fond of their Rust. I also have some other small bottles from them, but have only used the verdigris (which is as delightful to work with as the rust)

Lovely work Sir!  I'm a big fan of the colour pallette here too as well as the lovely modelling - I love anything with a nice amount of Bilious greens :)

Yep, fair point....carry on Mal, Bibbles was already afflicted before the 'Brick-Syndrome' kicked in.

That is simply superb! I really must invest in some Modelmates stuff, it seems to be worth the cash.

Cheers lads!
Yes, everybody should buy Modelmates stuff, because it rocks! For the rust, I'd say it's okay but not excellent (you don't get that dry, textured look that rust has), but the Track Dirt is my new 'sex in a bottle'. It's so good for weathering in both application and color. And so easy to use too!

Excellent results. I love it! I like the weathering on the double brick wall near the door. Very nice.

Did you make the discarded toys? Or are they bought?

Looks like individual bricks is the new black. Boys we better put down the foamcore and coffee stirers and play with real men's bricks. :D

Cheers
Matt

That is fantastic! Every now and then I look at the big bags of loose bricks I bought, test vs my sanity, then I quietly put them back in the box for later... :D

Thanks!
@Constable Bertrand: the toys are Full Thrust fighters :).  A generic fighter and a Japanese transformable robot-fighter (think Macross). Great scale for toys at 28mm!

Magnificent  o_o

I particularly like the slimy pond - it treads the line between 'slimy' and 'toxic waste' very nicely.

Well done!
