Quiet compressor?
« on: April 12, 2021, 06:39:19 PM »
Evening all,
I've a 25L compressor that I usually use for airbrushing but it's big, loud and inconvenient.  I could do with something quieter...  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have just purchased a Vigiart AS186 compressor & airbrush kit, the compressor is very quite.
AS186 seems to be a standard type of compressor that many firms rebadge

I have one if these - it’s quiet

I'd recommend the Iwata Studio too, a very good piece of kit with the added bonus that it has connectivity for two airbrushes and is powerful enough to run a small paint gun for bigger projects like terrain.

I have one of the 186s as well -- if you're in the UK, https://barwellbodyworks-shop.com/ retail them & accessories / paints etc.

The quietest compressors I've tried are of the 'oil bath' variety - Sil Air are very good: https://www.air-craft.net/acatalog/Sil-Air-Silent-Airbrush-Compressors.html
They are more expensive than piston or diaphragm models, but they are noticeably quieter, and this can certainly be a boon to avoiding spousal wrath  :)
(Their only, very minor, drawback is that they require an oil change once in a while - months apart usually - they can also be run for longer thtan the other types as the oil bath disperses heat fron the moving parts.)
