Dr Who - The 12th Doctor

When Peter Capaldi was introduced as the 12th Doctor I was looking forward to a great new series. However I have watched each of the new episodes and have come away a little disappointed - actually very disappointed. The reason for this lack-lustre response was once again evident with the latest episode Forest of Night from last night.

I quite like Capaldi's rather older portrait and his confused state has its merits. Clara is a good side kick and even Mr Pink has his moments. The special effects are some of the very best I have ever seen on a TV production, so where is the series lacking?

Without doubt I believe that the problem with the latest series is the writing - I have yet to watch an episode that does not have a simple and well written story line. The writers have really tried to over complicated things to the point where (as a DR Who fan) I am seriously contemplating not watching the rest of the series.

I know that the whole series (at least this series) has already been written, filmed and edited, so I am not expecting much, but for Gawds sake, can we please have a decent story line and less skreaching and screaming!

Can't help but agree with you. The 11th Doc had some stinkers but I found it hard to switch on the following Saturday after the Moon turned out to be an an egg that hatched a creature that immediately laid an identical egg.

Post David Tennant, I think fandom has blinded you until now. Stopped watching quite a while ago.

I like Capildi in the role, but the show does seem to have gone up its own ass a touch.

Yep, I concur. Capaldi is great as the Doctor, but the quality of scripts have been variable this series.  After a disappointing start I enjoyed the last few episodes, but last night's effort was a bit 'meh'.

Doctor Who ended for me with 2003's "Scream of the Shalka".

"New Doctor Who" is what I call an episode of the classic show, a novel or audio play featuring a classic Doctor that I am yet to see.

The final nail in the coffin for me was Day of the Doctor. No classic Doctors but for some reason, John Hurt? Piss off.

I almost gave up but after the 3rd episode started enjoying it again. My 10 year old loves it and it is a traidtional 'dad and family' watch so will never truly go out of fashion in our house. Storylines are rather pooh though

At the end of the day, it's a children's TV show. But however bad it might be, Capaldi is always worth watching over breakfast on the Sunday morning iPlayer.

Come off it, if you didn't watch many of the Matt Smith stories how can you dismiss them all?

And it's a family show, not just a kids' show, albeit shown at a ridiculous time.

I watched enough, sporadically to make an informed judgement about how the series was going. That is all anyone can do if they are going to make a decision not to watch somthing. It could always be "pure gold" in the next episode. I'm not persuaded that it was though. Very much style over substance in my opinion.

Because the watershed is at 9pm and it has a lot of adult fans? Not having had live TV for six years, I didn't realise it was on that late.

celebrated acting talents on display, to me it feels like he is not bothering much at times...

There have been two good and a bit scary, stories IMO. The one with the thing in the corner of the room, and the one with the shrinking Tardis things living in the walls.

However I would rather risk watching things that might be a bit meh at times, but have interesting ideas etc, such as Who, Agents of Shield, and Gotham rather than watch Great British Sew/Dig/Bake/Talent/Song type shows which are the alternative!
