Please do add battle reports and photos, as you progress.  I am greatly enjoying this.

I'm due to play a game this coming friday so I'll make sure I post up a report (or at least a link to one on my blog) but in the mean time I have finished the company of spaniards

Thanks guys, I'm enjoying finally putting paint on these guys.

@metternich - the idea is to do pikes eventually but at the scale of the battles I'm looking at doing pike weren't of much use. Most of the warfare in the Low Countries were 'actions', ambushes, raids, that kind of thing. Companies of shot would have been more common so that's what  I'm going to focus on. Saying that I do have a guezen pike unit undercoated and ready to go!

We had our first game last night. Despite having to go scurrying back to the rule book every so often, we had a great game. here is the full write up http://theleadpile.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/cocksure-gambit.html

But here are some pics for folk that don't like link clicking

Suffice is to say that the villains won. Sir Thomas was captured, Sir Jack is fried and the Lady Giselle has passed a chest full of something dangerous to the Spaniards. Stay tuned for the nest exciting episode!

I quite agree that pikes make little sense in a small skirmish action.  In most renaissance sieges, when a breach had been made, pikemen generally assaulted the breach using their sidearms (some pike used hedging tools in the a few sieges in the ECW).

If it played as WONDERFULLY as it looks you must have had a great evening of it.

Considered adding a few Spanish Inquisition members to your baddies ("no one expects the Spanish Inquisition !).  Introduction of the Inquisition was one of the horrors that English and Dutch leaders often cited for resistance to Spain, and there are a large number of hooded/masked figures around to add to your dramatis personae.  I quite like the image of Inquisitors secretly consorting with forces of darkness.
