Uh oh! another Playmobil pirate ship...
« on: September 04, 2008, 03:38:26 AM »
Just noticed that Playmobil came out with another pirate ship...

http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4290

It would require some modification for 28mm gaming, but would be useful.
Sailors have more fun!

There's a giant clam with a cannon in it!  lol That's fantastic. I want a job on their product development team.

Kanonenmuschel
What a fabulous idea. Add a small furnace and a rudder, and have units of them!!!
IF you were into that kind of thing....ahem....

I had a slightly different version of this (though the scale is the same, it was one of these two-masters they keep reformatting), and it was invaluable to my childhood.  I had a small river/large creek near my house and I would take it down there and float it.

Not that long ago, I found the playmobil sloop at Target on sale for twenty (it's usually around thirty) and replaced the sails with canvas, put on some guns, and relaid the deck with balsa strips.  It was a great  basis for a medium-sized ship... this one, with modifications, would be perfect for a galleon.  You could stage most of the game on the deck, I should think.
Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

I don't (and no longer have the ship), but I'm going to be doing a similar technique with a paper-model ship that I just ordered - I'll post those as soon as I've got them.

You should visit their HQ at Zirndorf (outskirts of Nurnburg).
They have a Playmobil park there that is awesome - including a ship that's big enough to walk around on. (Favourite quote from the staff : "Try not to fall in the lake"). We had a hugely enjoyable day there. Good value for money too.

I wouldn't mind working there....
