Forum oddities
« on: 29 November 2014, 09:21:46 AM »
Forum oddities and no I am not talking about members!

The forum software does seem to be increasingly flakey on Apple Safari.  Last week or so has seen all sorts of strange events ... At the moment I have Jimbibbly's logo in my icon bar ..... And my last post wanted the message box to be a password sign in field.  :o

I have cleared my cache on numerous occasions, closed the app, restarted the device, etc.  Sometimes several times a day, which - frustratingly - clears cookies and history on all the other sites I visit as well.

Here's James' logo as an icon (though of course it might just look like the icon to others!)  8)

Btw this isn't a call for action as I realise that resolution could be a major exercise whereas its my choice to use Apple but for me it does detract from the forum experience and at times makes it effectively unusable.  :'(
My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 74
(2024 = 38; 2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

I get weird things like that on Apple Safari all the time. Usually just the icons for showing whether I have participated in a thread and things like that showing up differently. Saying that it hasn't happened as much of late. Sometimes it would be terrible. Eventually it would change to something else.

There you go, another oddity!  :D

I occasional dip in via a Windows machine and never have problems with that. The only hassles are when browsing on my Iphone, which is virtually all of my internetery (is that a new word?) these days.

PS: James' logo as an icon is now appearing as the icon for 'cool'. So James is cool.

Interesting! The worst one I've had is someone's footer banner becoming an icon in the left navigation bar, which just obliterates the screen.

Btw I'm on the latest software update (iOS 8.1.1) and it doesnt happen with any other website.

This was happening some time ago. I haven't done the update (not enough space)

So James is cool.

I've been telling you this for years  lol

I'm using Apple Safari and haven't had any problems at all...

Me too but I've refused so far to update to the latest iOS and I'm on a 4s. What have you got?

Maybe you're just unlucky  ;)

cheers

James

I'm using a 6 or iPad retina, both on fully updated iOS, no problems that I've noticed. At least since they've fixed the issue with uploading pics.

Here's one that's a bit different...

Since yesterday, (Dec. 3) email notifications from the forum have not had working html links back to the relevant topic. The information for the link is there, but the link is not 'live' and can not be clicked.

I'm running FireFox 34.0

And this morning I had an interesting one  :D

On clicking 'show unread posts since last visit' I got this:

Which when I refreshed the page got a lot better to become this:

I cleared my cache (which isn't always convenient as it clears other website settings & pws aswell) and all returned to normal:

These are all screenshots from an IPhone 4S running IOS 8.1.1 using its Safari browser.

These oddities aren't occurring on other websites, it's all very particular to LAF.

Anyways, just flagging/showing this for info, am not complaining or demanding resolution!  ;) :D
