A commendable philosophy. :D I've been thinking the same myself - I still have a box or two of those nids and things that need (re)painting, then I'll take a look at the Bugs book for ViDe:FuCo.
It works better than keeping up with the codices  :D
And I'll also take ViDe as a useful suggestion.

Voting's proceeding well. I thought I'd add a couple of pics: as explained, I have a handful of models painted for each army - nothing special, all very fast paint jobs. And some minor conversions...

Deseptinecrons

Er - the hanging guy is a sort of Necron swashbuckler chap. Er.

Acute Isosceles Ear Cabal

Oh the shame, he wears the same hat as the swashbuckling Necron...

Omnomnom

The big guy was bought second hand painted in those basic colours, but I added the stuff on the base and some shading and drybrush work; which are barely visible in the pic anyway. The cultist and stealer are really old models.

43 votes in - many thanks to all who took the time to vote or to give advice.
Currently (I will not give anything away for anyone who has not voted) one of the 3 forces is in the lead, with about a third more points than the other two who are tied.
Having just finished reorganizing all my painted models (well, sort of finished....) I am now sorely tempted to start the 'winning' army. Or shall I wait until the actual voting deadline on the 31st? I should, really, but will I manage now that I am a bit psyched up to start?  o_o

If you feel like painting, just do it. Don't waste this mojo. Muses are fickle if anything.

Hmmm, maybe I should, shouldn't I?

 :D

OK, will go dig out the leaders, BUT if the voting changes direction I'll respect that and follow the majority of votes.
There is an unforeseen problem: I was actually tempted to buy a new (and expensivish) model for the currently-winning force. That's not meant to happen!

So I did.
I trawled through the dungeon to find all my Tyranid models, or at least as many as I could before I gave up.
I did quite well, and found all I remembered owning bar perhaps 3; which is good by my standards.

Since voting is still on, by the way, I am not mentioning the subject of this thread, which is messy. Viz:
NOTE - I HAVE INSERTED NAMES NOW THAT VOTING IS OVER.
Some of my largest unit, the GENESTEALERS have some of their number undercoated, so I'll start with these. I found the old, old ZOANTHROPE which will be a treat to paint. And I added a SENTINEL, which I have no idea what colour to paint yet. I'd forgotten all about my second CARNIFEX, which will need a lot of work to get done. I'm also planning some conversions, in particular using some old HIVERS as CULTISTS. And I am very tempted to add a STORMBLADE although it doesn't make much sense, does it? I was a bit shocked to see how old my most recent model is - around 12 years, probably.

I wonder if I'll be able to fill in the blanks when the end of voting arrives.... ???

I voted for someone who wasnt the winner but having seen the photographs I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the winning army.

Thanks - of course if the vote tips I'll have to change all my plans!  ;D

Meanwhile, I just realised I have a painted BENDIBUS which can be added to my 13 previously completed models for this force.

I voted for Necrons because of the ease of painting.  The majority seems to be tyranids, though and that's another force that's easy to paint.

Have you considered doing "the dip" for the 'nids?

I considered it for all 3 forces, but find it a bit messy, so will probably stick to an undercoat - base colours - drybrush - wash routine.

I see.  Brush dipping is probably not a good technique for Necrons anyway.  However it would be great for Necrons. and if you use a brush-dip rather than an emersion dip, the mess is no more than painting with oil based paints.  Here's my tutorial for brush-dipping:

These cops are my most recent brush-dipping project:

Best of luck whatever you decide!

Hey, thanks - bookmarked for future reference. I might try it out if I can lay my hands on the right stuff here in Malta; either this, or try something I have not yet attempted - ordering liquids from abroad....
Nice cops, by the way.  8) 8)
