Greetings all,
Every year the Napoleonic group at my club (Nunawading Wargames Association) put on an annual 3 day game over the first weekend of January. Starting with Waterloo in 2006 and 2007 other years have included - Ligny/Quatre Bras, Wargram, Aspern-Essling, Dresden (I think??? Well at least somewhere in 1814).
I played Blucher for the both Waterloo battles and Ney for Quatre Bras. Since that time my father has been ill and I have had to miss the ensuing battles.
These games are fantastic. They are held at one of the members' (Tim Bayly) home in the country in one or his large sheds. The tables and armies are built up over the course of a year after meticulous planning.
Every unit present is included, usually at battalion level, but sometimes at company level. The level of detail is such that each unit is also painted correctly (ie: facings, standards, drummer's uniforms etc). Detail, detail, detail...
This year is Borodino and here are the finished tables. Each table is abour 1.5 x 1 Meter and they are on rollers so that they can be moved to allow access to players. This battle is going to involve about 6000 miniatures and I can't wait to see them on the table(s). I was supposed to play the Murat with the French cavalry reserve but again I can't make the battle so I'll have to settle on a visit for an afternoon.
