Nice job with those minis, and it's nice to see a Dalek or two wherever the heck I go

Thanks artwho9 - praise indeed from someone who runs a pretty definitive guide to painted Doctor Who minis. If anyone hasn't seen that website, they should check it out, it's great stuff. And you'll also be able to see from where I stole the idea for how to paint the Fifth Doctor's pinstripes!

Here's the next instalment of Doctor Who. As promised, some bad guys!

We'll start with another couple of pepperpots, this time in their classic livery:

A potato-headed Sontaran:

Some late-era Cybermen:

These came from a pack containing wounded cybermen, hence a couple of them clutching onto themselves. The guns should really have red barrels, but the sculpts aren't great and it looks more like they're holding cosmic hairdryers! I might come back to these minis later with a fresh eye and paintbrush to see if I can improve them.

Here's a Raston Robot, who has possibly just shot those Cybermen, as it did in 'The Five Doctors':

I've always loved the Zygons, and they' probably be on top of my list of monsters to bring back in the new Who:

That's it for today. Thanks to the joys of eBay, I now have all the remaining Doctors (up to and including Colin Baker). They're based and primed, and next on the list, along with the Brigadier and a couple of other UNIT chaps.

Enjoy!

And finally, wearing the latest in fish-net fashion, a Sea Devil:

I'm still not entirely happy with some of those recent paint jobs - I thin I might re-do the Sontaran, as he seems too cartoony with those huge eyes, and should probably have darker skin

Fair point. Some of the sculpts are - well, they're a bit boring, frankly. Very static (the Sea Devil and Sontaran in particular), but then again these are old, old minis. Strangely, the monsters seem to be the lifeless ones. The minis of the Doctor have a lot more character. I now have all the remaining Doctors that FAC produced and will get my brushes out as soon as I get the chance.

[BTW, interesting the compare the Sontaran here with the Harlequin minis - such as those on anevilgiraffe's excellent blog.

Here are two more minis straight off the painting line.

First up is William Hartnell, the first Doctor. Lovely mini this, really captures his slightly grumpy attitude, and always with his hands clutching his lapels:

Sadly, Hartnell never got to interact with this fine fellow, the Brigadier:

Still on the workbench: Tom Baker just needs his scarf finishing, then he'll be up next. Then John Pertwee and finally (when I get my head around painting his coat), Colin Baker. After that, I think I might take a rest!

Ah, the dreaded scarf! It was bad enough trying to do it with the BTD 28mm figure, I hate to think of it in 40mm with the extra demands of authenticity lol

These really are great figures and I can't wait to see the rest  :)

Yes, well I chickened out of the fine check that should William Hartnell should technically be wearing. I owned this mini about 15 years ago and still have the shivers about attempting it back then. Actually, I'm just relieved that this mini line stopped before Sylvester McCoy appeared. I don't fancy trying to match artwho9's job on the BTD figure:

That's just awesome, it makes me cry a little...
