@Fred - yes, I've got the swing of white (anothe tricky one) and have a relatively good recipe but I just can't get yellow. I struggle to control very thin paint (the famous 'milky' consistency) which I think you need for yellow. I saw some beautiful Infinity miniatures once with great yellow armour and the pinger told me there was 8 very thin layers. 8!!!! Forget it.

@Ockman - thanks. I must try and post more frequently, and less WIP's!  >:(

Painted these blokes a fair while ago, but only just finished their bases and base edges, so thought I'd pop them up here:

I had a phase of experimenting with Army Painter dip, so these were basecoated (leaving some blacklining) then highlight then dipped. Same as the mercs I posted in earlier in the thread. Idea works OK, but you definitely need to go bright for good results, brighter than I've gone here.

I may try it again with some suitable infantry sometime - one of GZG's upcoming infantry (Islamic Federation resculpts) should be perfect.

Sweet!  The yellow/brown guys are the best, I may try something in that combo if it'll turn out looking that good.

Cheers - If I was doing them again I'd use a heavy pigment paint to rebase the yellow first (maybe some sort of pale beige from GW base range). The yellow's on them took 5 thin coats and aren't that smooth as a result - because I like to leave blacklining I find too thin paints quite challenging, so some colours are tricky. I rarely use yellow, or certain reds or purples (purples seem to be often thin).

It is a good colour scheme though - I think the 'blue' tone grey on the weapons helps too, it's contrasty so they emphasize each other as a result.

Hi All,

Got a fair few things to add to this thread but not had time to take any pics, so here's a cheeky WIP in the meantime.

Nowt too flash, but a bigger group to come in the next day or two.

Those look really great.

Would love to see more of your USNC Hardsuit Marines by GZG.

Love the colors you used on them.

Any chance you'd be willing to share which paint and techniques you used for painting them?

Thanks matey - sorry, you did send me a PM, totally forgot to reply.

Luckily, I'm weird and have all my paint schemes noted down.

They are - black primer then

body: GW Khorne Red, helmet: Vallejo Black Red
Guns: Vallejo Luftwaffe Uniform

Then GW Agrax earthshade everything at full strength - I prefer the new gloss version of the wash, it flows better for my money.

Then reline and panel the armour khorne red and panel the whole helmet khorne red.
Then highlight with GW wazdakka red
then give sharp highlight of squig orange.

To be honest, I didn't enjoy painting these - I paint in a very particular way, so struggle with lots of fine detail (like ribbing). Glad you like them though. I also didn't use Dullcote on these - I gloss varnished them, then used a matte varnish I have that's pretty crap, for that satin finish.

That's my recipe for 'dark' red. If I want brighter red (like on that blokes  cloak above) I go up to a sharper highlight (usually up to a pale yellow) then tone back down with Vallejo transparent red.

These are lovely - very neat and bright painting. Well done! :)

Will we see some of these in "scenic glamour shots" later on?

No problem - sorry it took me a while!

I'm finishing off some new terrain to go with me nredesert board at the moment, so might take some nice scenic shots then!

Very cool and very retro, all the better for that lovely paintwork.

I, for one, do not recognise any authority unless it wears a flashy cape!

Hiya all,

Few rounds of LPL have closed so I can pop some recent stuff in here:

Very pleased with this batch - I went to really sharp highlights on the very outer sharp edges and I'm please I did, might not photograph that well but they look great in the hand. Tried a new basing method on these - 15mm round cornered squares. They look OK, they game really well - really work with against scatter terrain.

Next, my pulp sci-fi group I previewed ages ago:

I'm happy with these - Pulp Sci-Fi (like the stuff Hydra minis do) is something I'd LOVE to see in 15mm so this group was a bit of an attempt at that. I'm a big fan of the scale but I think it's sometimes difficult to get the kind of character that pulp need. Having said that, the old Traveller 15's were super characterful and the Ion Age range is definitely trying (some weird stuff going on with weapon scale on some though). I'd love to commission a range really.

Anyway, it's nice to have something to add!

Very crisp :)

I love the NSL troops (a particular favourite of mine in 28mm... but your 15mm versions are better painted than my 28s :D !).

Keep it up, there is some cracking stuff in here :)
