Raxxus "build something" thread
« on: January 30, 2015, 09:21:45 PM »
Hey,

Haven't really made up my mind what to construct for this competition, but to make it fitting I am going to do something with a flamethrower. Hopefully that is good enough for the criteria of the competition.

That said im going to do something to fit with the rest of my post apocalyptic miniatures.
one of my ideas is to do a mech or a tracked on wheeled vehicle.

A flamethrower will be fine, just base it large  ;)

It would probably be vehicle based anyway.

So I started my entry today.
Started with some foamboard aswell as a half of something reminicent of a kinderegg capsule, aswell as plasticard and paperclips.

Sofar it's just a turret with a hatch for then the flamethrower is not use aswell as a small viewport for the side/front of the turret.

That's taking shape nicely. The components all look like they work together well.

Very cool! I am liking it.  My only niggle would be the backside of the turret.  It just seems to be missing something visually.  For a niggle it is not a bad one.  The rest absolutely looks the biz.

A maintenance hatch perhaps?

Was thinking something like stowage or a small escape hatch but yeah some kind of maintenance box would work (stowage might be bad because it might catch fire..)
I would have liked if I could somehow add a flickering led light flame to the end of the flamer.

Put some plastic cement on the tip and light it up before the photograph! :D

Can I just say that real fire isn't sanctioned by the competition and forum owners and the builders safety is out upmost concern and that if any harm is caused to the builder we at the Lead Adventure Forum cannot be held responsible...

 ;)

Do it, it'll look cool  :D

cheers

So a question, should I base it on a russian tank(t-55..etc) or do a sci fi based vehicle,I would have prefered it to be more "realistic" but aslong as something looks possible it's okay.

I was thinking something similar to the firefighter tanks you sometimes see in Pictures or some odd ARV vehicle

How about using this as the basic design.

If you get a cheap tank toy you should be able to rebuild the top and the back to meet the competition requirements.  The Russians had a recovery version of the BTR 90 too.  That was wheeled but might be another option.  Again I am geeking out on your flame thrower.  Very nice utilization of bits of what is essentially rubbish.  Very cool.
