Some ideas please
« on: 01 February 2015, 12:39:27 PM »
I usually set up our club Christmas game usually on a vaguely military theme.  Now this year I have been "tasked" with running 3 multi-player games; one at the school where I help out, our club one and a family one.  So I have started collecting stuff.

So far I have Copplestone Santa and helper and the other figures in the adventure Stolen Christmas http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=74083.msg904141#msg904141

Unpainted I have some plastic reindeer, some old GW Halflings and Dwarves (to paint as Santa's elves), some old Ral Partha Goblins (to be Frost Goblins), a female figure (to be a Frost witch).

Had a look at Wargame Supply Dump, Eureka (teddies & toy soldiers) and Copplestone for more figures.  I am in the UK and I've seen some nice figures in the USA but the combination of high postage to UK and outrageous Post Office surcharges puts them out of the picture.

Amy suggestions for:
1.  Santa's enemy - Jack Frost, Ice Queen or something
2.  Useful figures to reinforce either army - particularly Santa's forces
3.  Useful characters for either side
4.  Game ideas - units, random events, Christmas themed weapons and effects etc.

While this one will be more of a Fantasy type setting I'm open to more "modern" figures to give a Pulp game as well or instead.

Fighting 15s sell Eureka figures in the UK, so no international postal costs.

I've once had the idea of a snowball fight skirmish game and tried to find some figures.. there are some out there, I have to dig and see if I can still find the information.
Sounds like a fun project!

Has Nick found a way to get cheaper shipping? The exchange rate on the Aussie dollar is vastly better than with the US Greenback right now (which would normally make Eureka's home office a better buy than their US outpost), but that shipping from down under is absolute murder.

There are a few companies out there that do some Christmas wars lines, and/or snowmen. I know there is at least one line of penguins(I know they are the wrong end of the world, but it is fantasy). You could build snowmen from scupty or beads & wire then arm them any way you want. Another source would be to look for miniature Christmas decorations to find elves etc.

Brilliant!  Just ordered 50 x 30mm Gingerbread men on e-bay.  (Laser cut MDF)

Thanks

Also some Hobbit cooks so Santa will have a bakery that makes Gingerbread Warriors!

Thanks, Scott.  I'd seen the Victory Force ones before but not the Old Glory ones.  They would be ideal but the postage, tax and surcharge getting them to the UK makes them prohibitively expensive.

The two OG sets will set me back $72 plus $47.95 shipping (at 2012 rates) plus 20% VAT plus £8 Post office charge more than doubling the cost of the figures So about $160 for 12 snowmen and 12 snowballers.  The Victory Force ones are at least a bit cheaper to post but the number I need for a squad of armed and a second squad of unarmed elves works out about the same.  Pity as they are nice and useful figures.

I am going to try the UK Old Glory stockist to see what they might cost through him.

Will follow with interest - most of the main miniature suppliers have been covered. Will let you know if I find anything new.
