Alternative to Alternative Armies
« on: March 05, 2015, 02:16:33 PM »
Hi,

I'm just looking at getting a small Flintloque force. However the official Flintloque figures are somewhat variable in terms of quality. I've had a brief search and I can't find anyone else who produces Napoleonic Fantasy miniatures (apart from one dwarf version of napoleon himself).

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty open to what faction, but I'd like them to look 'napoleony'.

cheers,

Tom

Hi Tony,

thanks for those links. Still not sure what I'm going for. I quite like some of the Flintloque sculpts, others just don't do it for me. All of them look better painted up in the flesh though.

As an aside I just bought your books, they were one of the reasons for wanting to go into Flintloque in the first place.

Cheers,

Tom

Well, it depends what armies you're thinking of -- the newer undead regulars and characters are all quite nice, the elves all seem good. I quite like most of the Orcs; although the naval crew was a bit disappointing. The dark elves guerillas are really nice.

The toad regulars are, I think, my favourites[1] but I'm less sure about some of the characters.

Between that array, you can get a lot of playable sections with nice figures; in a lot of cases without repeated sculpts.

There are pictures of my paints of a lot of those ranges on katiethewargamer.blogspot.co.uk

[1] They're just so much fun and the figures are fantastic.

Mind you, if you're determined to find other figures, there's always http://ironmaskminiatures.blogspot.co.uk/

The rules would work well in that era.

Thanks for the reply.

I love the Iron Mask miniatures, but I was thinking something properly napoleonicy.

The more I look at painted examples of the Flintloque minis, the more I think its probably just bad photography on the AA site. I'm still undecided on what faction to go for.

I've made my mind up in the end. Gone for some Elvish dragoons.

Good choice. Although I've never truly trusted those 'point-ears'.  ;)
