I've been nuts for War of the Worlds ever since listening to Jeff Wayne's musical version many years ago. I've always fancied doing something for the tabletop with the iconic Martian tripods, so when the 15mm scale All Quiet on the Martian Front kickstarter came along I was all over it. It's taken a while for it to get to me, but now it has I'm going to put together some forces for gaming of around 1,500 points for the Martians, Americans and the British expeditionary force.

First off is a test model for the Martians to get the metals right. I'm going for a clean metal finish with some light green weathering on the metal. The bases are resin. The game is set in early 20th century America, so I need to watch what goes on the bases as debris etc. The drone below is just about to be joined by two more to complete my first Martian unit. It's on a 40mm base. The large assault tripods are on 80mm bases.

Assembly was a little tricky with the first one as there are a lot of components and the legs didn't fit flush and are too small for pinning, so I used the paper technique for gluing the lets on the next pair. Essentially stick a small square of paper onto one join, let dry and then glue the second part onto that. The paper soaks the glue in and helps key the glue for a strong join.

Very nice  8)

The base colour is curious, it's got enough red in it to look like Mars but should pass for Earth as well.

Will follow with interest  :)

cheers

As the metal is a pretty neutral colour, I decided a little more colour on the base might jazz things up. Reddish cobble seemed a decent bet.

Very nice. I think the choice of colours works very well. ;D

Lovely start, know I will enjoy this thread. And the matching of bases to miniatures does work well.

This looks promising - promising indeed.

Thanks folks. Some more drones, finishing up the first pod. Something... taller, next I think.

How's this coming along? They have released British forces that some on here may find interesting:

Time is at a premium of late with other projects, but I do have an assault tripod in my sights I'm going to work on next week. The problem is I want to go nuts on the base. At the moment I have several skeletonized heat ray casualties I want to add to the resin base for some flavour.

This looks like a winning project. I like the metal finish on your Martian, I'll be following with interest. :)

Thanks Anna. The range of models for Martian Front is just utterly fantastic, I think they nailed the look both for the Martians and the humans. 15mm is a nice scale to work on, and with the large tripod bases I want to add a lot of action on the bases, like small dioramas. A dead parson covered in red weed, a destroyed artillery piece, little Easter eggs for WotW fans. I'm going to pick up some AK interactive paints and washes for the human vehicles after watching these tutorials.

AK Interactive makes some great product. I think you'll really enjoy them.

Now that the Brits are released for "All Quiet", I might take another look.
