(COMMERCIAL) New Female Miniatures Emporium
« on: April 11, 2015, 09:47:08 PM »

Hola!

I'd just like to draw attention to my new page

http://thedicebaglady.net/female-miniatures/

It's a bit of a personal project that came about by being hacked off at having to trawl the web for cool female miniatures that weren't overtly sexualised or ridiculous, and then having to spend more on postage than the models in some cases, buying one from here, one from there.

So basically I've been trawling the web, so you don't have to, and handpicking some of the coolest mini women out there so you can get it from one place. I'll start taking all these to shows (Starting with SALUTE), along with a growing display cabinet. It must already be the biggest place to exclusively get female models [from various manufacturers] and I want it to keep growing.

I'm currently working on categorising them into different pages by type (fantasy, historical etc) then even further (equipment) so it's easy to find what you're looking for, especially as it starts expanding even further.

So far I have Copplestone Castings, CP Models, Crooked Dice, Dark Sword, Dragon Bait Miniatures, Heresy, Mierce Miniatures, Otherworld Miniatures, Pulp Figures, Reaper and Wargames Factory.

Coming very soon are Fenris Games, Hasslefree, Westwind, Bombshell and Statuesque Miniatures.

The community has been really awesome and encouraging with this, and the project/page has been getting a tonne of coverage on various sites, including Beasts of War http://www.beastsofwar.com/the-dice-bag-lady/qa-time-dice-bag-lady/

If you want to see your models here, or have a suggestion, please let me know. I'm trying to avoid the super big companies purely because most places stock them, and I'd like it to be a little emporium of models you might not have seen before (or can't actually get at every LGS, so no Malifaux, Warhammer, Hordes, Raging Heroes etc)

Cheers
Annie

They might be, but they are fully dressed, unlike most Nazi women, who look like their out of a sleazy S+M catalogue.

I think Annie is great for taking a stand- something has been p***ing her off, and she has done something about it. Good on you Annie. You have soem great figures in your collection.
Theres more 28mm Superhero Madness at my blog, http://fourcoloursupers.blogspot.com/

I'm puzzled about the presence of the angry beavers in the list!

This being said, while they aren't clothed, they're fantastic minis!

as opposed to out of the worlds most famous sleazy nazisploitation/sexploitation grindhouse movie..........

its neither right nor wrong just exceedingly funny to me. A fusion confusion of not quite political correctness.

I reserve the right to be amused by the fact characters out of a movie that is akin to the womens movement being in reverse at warp factor 11 is ok cus her boobs are not on display. As opposed to red sonja which is a woman who kicks arse and takes no shit from the men because she has a metal bikini.

It does as you mentioned hit the brief though of dressed female figures. That I cannot deny. Nor would I expect someone in their 20's to be up on a film made before they were born that hardly got a screening and is an almost forgotten cult classic. I do though hence my amusement. I have even watched some of it. (it was so bad that 10 minutes was sufficient.)

I am actually well up on nazi sexploitation, if you clicked the images for all three of those model sets, I've actually talked about it. Most of the Pulp [genre] listings I spent a while gathering some context to be put into it, with a mixture of my own writing and a bunch of excerpts from other places.

Anyway Isla SheWolf doesn't take any er shit either, but is obviously a horrific character. But there are plenty of male models based on horrific charcters. They don't all need to be lovely, wargaming needs villains. Also wrote about that in the individual listings  ;)

But I'm not claiming to be the grand announcer of what is and and what isn't. They're well sculpted models, and great for using as German WW2 troops, and WW2 gaming is huge. And yep, they're not fetishised, like the rest I've come across! I would (and will) use them myself when I finally get around to playing that era (when I'm not up til early hours writing product descriptions  ;))

Somebody posted this in another thread http://bikiniarmorbattledamage.tumblr.com/post/78258766632/female-armor-bingo and it's basically the same critera I use when choosing models to stock, they are allowed a few boxes though depending how cool the model is, otherwise I'd have about 5 in total. Although reading it back, the only ones I really let through are boob plate and exposed head.

Nothing against sexy models, not trying to ban them or anything like that, literally just taking action by not being negative about the things I don't like, but being  encouraging and supportive about more of the things I see to be positive for the hobby. And by the constant messages appearing in my inbox, plenty of people agree (which is awesome!)

Cheers
Annie

Great idea. Nice selection so far. Don't forget about Hinterland. And Gringo 40s has some nice females in his Mexican revolution range.

It would be really useful, as the figures come from different places, to have a scale.comparison between them.

Or even just your own measurement of them.

Dark Sword minis tend to run tall ...

Also have a look at Fenryll in France. They have some nice fully armoured ladies.

I only just heard of Hinterland this morning when somebody emailed me, they definitely have a message in their inbox, such good minis there, I would love to carry most of the range! I'll check out Fenryll too when I have a bit more time, their catalogue is huge. More from around the world would be great.

I thought about a scale system but I currently just lack the time (especially with Salute) and Dark Sword come in sealed packs, so it's kinda hard! Still haven't got around to uploading all the SAGA stock I have either! For now, I can always measure on demand if people are intrigued by individual models.

Just realised I used the word "actually" too often in the earlier post, apologies if that sounded a bit finger clicky, it was the first thing I did when I woke up!

Could also be worth contacting Paul over at Midlam Miniatures, he has a large fantasy range that contains lots of interesting female adventurers. Also just plugged the launch of this interesting venture on my wargame news blog Wargame News and Terrain.

Brigade Games might also be a good source, as they are not distributed outside the US, as far as I know, apart from a few odds and ends at Northstar.  Lon can be found on this forum sometimes.

A lot of their ranges include sensibly-dressed women.  The examples below are "Female swashbucklers 1" from Swashbucklers and Buccaneers and "Women in ACW Zouave uniforms with kepis" from Gaslight, but see also the ranges 28mm Pulp Adventurers, Sons and Daughters of the Desert, WW2 Pulp Horror, Mob Wars and possibly others.

Back from the dead, almost.
