Hello all!

I have painted Russians for my club's Great Northen War Project. The Infantry are all plastic minis from Wargames Factory. The Cavalry is from Warfare minatures.

Below you can see some exemples of what I have painted....

The Astrachanska Regiment ca 1708-1709

The Moskovska Dragoon Regiment ca 1708-1709

If you want details and few more pictures of other newly painted units( in total there is five of them) then check out my blog....

Lovely figures Jeppan!

Perhaps a strange question. Are those firing Russians also from Wargames factory and do they come with separate arms?

You might have guessed that I have a few conversions in mind.

Thanks!

Thank you for your kind comments! :)

Romark answered your question WilleB. However what is clear that this is a kit that Lena itself to conversions of all kinds. There is a must when it comes to conversions or modifing these minis. You must cut down the necks, otherwise you will end up with ostriches. It's a fairly easy procedure, but it's a must. The pikes are not part of he kit, but you do not need to make any massive conversions in order to fit them with these sticks. You just buy some from a suitable pike/spear suppplier and pick out the right arms from the kit. I use pikes that are manufactured by Northstar.

Nice figures.

I see on other forums that you seem unsure about Russian organisation -

Quote
We will use Black Powder together with the supplement " Ladt Argument of the Kings" This supplement the Russians have the opinon to field a unit that includes both musketerars as well as pikemen.

The Russian did have grenadiers as far as I can tell. There where entire units that only consisted of grenadiers for exemple " Repnin'Grenadiers".
There is also so called Horse-grenadiers. The main question is how often they mixed ordinariy musketeers with grenadiers like the Swedes did.

Russian battalions had 1 pike man to 7 musketeers at this time - so 2 or 3 figures per battalion.

The Russian regiments before 1708 had 1 grenadier company per regiment, i.e usually 1 company per 2 battalions.

The grenadier regiments, like Repnin's, were formed by taking these grenadier companies and combining them into a unit. So Repnin's grenadiers were formed from the grenadier companies of the Buturski, Belgorodski, Nevski, Perejaslavski, Tverski, Schlusselburgski, Jamburgski, Nishegorodski, Narvski and Jaroslavski regiments.

The 'elite' units kept their grenadiers - these were the 2 guard regiments and the Ingermanlandski ans Astrachanski regiments.
