Have the rules, have the minis, never played  :'(

Yeah I know some of them aren't Necromunda, but they were painted at the same time.

Great painting as usual, Michi!
Love the "Necromunda Storage Unit".  :-*

Nice collection Mighty Flip! (Looks at both the above posts, continues kicking himself for not buying an Escher gang when they were still available....)

Great shout for a thread! I will have to try and turf mine out. Can't believe it has been 20 years?!!

Necromunda really took my imagination. We had an old double garage at home, set back from the house (which was then extended to include a new garage and rooms above thus rendering it obsolete as a garage). The final 2/3rds were made into a space I could use and I had a campaign running over one summer holidays which included me illustrating and making my own Underhive Newspaper.

I love the concept of Necromunda in game terms, relatively small forces of characters that develop as you play on. I have yearned for something similar ever since. I remain a fan of the game but have always felt that it could be added to to allow just that little bit more randomness and depth.

The later versions of the gangs were not as good IMHO. I was informed by someone from GW that they were sculpted by newer more inexperienced sculptors as sort of practice / development pieces.

I always wished I had bought Mad Donna though, she was a brilliant miniature! I also seem to remember the Spyrer's being good miniatures, but upon reflection these days, I think they were probably some of the weaker models in the range.

The Spyrers are good miniatures in their own right, they just don't fit the Necromunda aesthetic, or even Imperial for that matter, they would be better as Inquisition forces than a gang of nobles. The old Confrontation Brat gangs were better IMO

Their armour was supposed to be of alien manufacture.  If you check out the Tau language in the their Codex you will find that the Tau word for spider is "malcada" or some such and the word for light or laser or something is "jakara".

So presumably the nobles buy the Spyrer armour from the Tau.  Thats why they dont look Imperial.  I like that idea.  As to why the Tau might sell battlesuit variants to the nobles of Hive Primus, who knows?  But the Tau do interfere in Imperial affairs and most importantly, the concept is fun I think :)

The Spyrer models are not exceptional miniatures, but I do like them quite a lot anyway.  Like the rest of my Necro stuff, I really should get working on them.  Some day.

I've never played Necromunda, but I have painted some Orlocks with the idea that I would use them with the Wastelands 3 PA rules some day.

What! Imperial Citizens having truck with extraterrestrials! Into the vats with them, one and all!  lol

Ahh, Necromunda. The one GW game I never got into back in the day and always regretted it. Still have a couple of the figures lying around somewhere, though.

Hard to believe it's been twenty years since that came out.

Since that time I sold off all my gangs, regretted it, and reacquired the figures...

I played Necromund pretty exclusively for years, starting in 1999 or about then. Loved the game, tweaked the hell out of it to have it play a bit smoother and we used to play on some crazy tables. Found these old pictures on the club website, sadly most of the terrain is gone now, but I still have the miniatures.

I may dig up some more later.

This thread is incredibly inspiring and is making me very happy.  We're just about to start (either next week or in 3 weeks) our club's first necromunda campaign.  So far it's four of us and we have Delaque, Van Saar, Redemptionist and Escher gangs, nearly all actual Necromunda figures.  If you folks would like, I can post links to the batreps to this thread.

I'll be running Van Saar.  I had a gang boxed set that I painted up when it first came out and then only played once.  I stripped the paint and added a whole bunch more figs.

Mine live in a cigar box.

A few examples, but nothing too fancy.  These are mostly base colors and dip with a bit of drybrush on the hair and metal.

You can see painted, an in-progress (a few conversions too) pics of the whole gang here:
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2014/10/new-paint-for-old-friends-necromunda.html

A word about the "newer" version Van Saar figs. I found them to be a disappointment and a real missed opportunity.  I have a few in my gang and while variation and customizability is nice, they were less detailed, notably bigger/chunkier to the point of almost being a different scale, and the heads had none of the trademark Van Saar rat tails and facial hair.

@ Cosmotiger:

Lovely what you've managed with those old plastic figs, well done! :)

@ Eilif;

Yeah, the newer Van Saar aren't a great match to the old Van Saar. I still like them enough to have a gang of the newer ones though (I feel they're better if you don't mix them with the old sculpts, and if you give them them some better weapons than the sprues they came with).

Sadly, since I moved house over Christmas, I am not sure where the Van Saar I painted are. I do have some very old pix of them (though be warned, they make already clunky models look horrible, and hence why I'd like to re-photo them):
