Hello,

last weekend we did some final playtesting on the new Triumph and Tragedy Spanish Civil War Supplement.

It turned out an epic game. We would like to share the fun with you.

The scenario was inspired by the German war movie "Die Brücke" by Bernhard Wickie.

Unfortunately the German tv channel Pro7 did a remake which was not so great.

Anyway... that remake caused an emotionally driven discussion at the German Sweetwater Forum which brought us to this story and our two heroes.

The names are Nacho Mehrunes firebrand peacher of the Nationalists and
Pepe "Banzai" Vidal the anarcho leader of the Republicans.

The story is located at the peaceful village of Casa Blanca

The bridge is a vital objective for both sides.

The motorized units of the Spanish Foreign Legion raced to the bridge and captured it unharmed. The leading elements of the Legion build a small fortified bridgehead and waited for the main body and the Republican attack. The defenders are seven
Legionaires that are forged into steel nails by firebrand preacher Nacho Mehrunes.

Pepe " Banzai " elected by the comunist commitee leads the assault on the brige at Casa Blanca.

The keen eyes of the 7 Legionaires see the Republicans closing and send messenger riders for reinforcements.

The Heavy Machine Gun has moved into position.

After discussing the pro and cons of an attack Pepe "Banzai" Vidal speaks some encouraging words about freedom, world comunism and free jerez for everyone.

The attack is executed from two sides to entangle the strongpoint. The Legionaires fight with cojones but are forced to retreat into the small house at the bridge.

Meanwhile the messenger riders reach the village and call for help.

After heavy fighting at, round and in the house the legionaires finally fullfill there motto. "Viva la Muerte" They inflicted heavy losses on the comunists and halted the attack. 24 militia men will not be forgotten.

The bridge is in Republican hands. Pepe Banzai Vidal orders his men to fortify the bridge and prepare for the counterattack.

His forward observers report from tanks, more Legionaires and the dreadful Moros.

Its time to call for air support. US American volunteer pilot Mike Hunninghouse
zooms in ...

...and drops some eggs onto the Carlist Monarchists Halo.

Not impressed by the heavy losses on the Carlists by the strafe attack the Nationalists recover quick and press there attack onto the bridge.
The German armoured car driver Jörn Dreger and his men rush towards Republican lines.

Followed by a German Tank I B

Here are the international brigades lead by famous author and journalist Ernest Steimel.  The mission is to cross the river and outflank the fascists.

Cows from espania meet farming supply from the Sovjet Union

Verdammt Heinrich. Wo kam das denn her ? A huge explosion pushes Dreger into his seat.

Aha...zat is ze Schweinehund  !

Oh nein... They have two T 26.... Nope but this is such a cool picture...

Dreger gives cover for the attacking Carlists and Firebrand Preacher Nacho Mehrunes. They charge the comunists in the house.

After a quick and dirty melee they drive the arnachists back. Pepe "Banzai" Vidal must reorganize his troops after this defeat.

Now Dreger gives cover for some Legionaires who want to join the fighting. Dreger will be awarded a medal after his brave actions at Casa Blanca.

Not to forget the other heroes of the battle. The brave hmg unit lead by Miguel de Florion who lost all his men in this battle and pays  the highest price too.
Nacho Mehrunes finally meets his enemy. Pepe Banzai Vidal. Back and forth they fight with fists and words. All this just because of a little bridge. Bad dice rolling settles the matter for both of them.

In peace they are united forever...Amen !

Under heavy losses the Moros cross the ford before the International Brigades and attack the flank.

The T 26 covers Papa Steimels retreat.

The reserves of the Republicans are not able to turn the tide of battle. They give some covering fire and leave the field for the Nationalists.

                                                      The End

Thanks to the playtesters Poliorketes, Florian and Jan. Together we found good rules for the airplane ground attack and the arnachists. Mike did a good job on the scenarios. The board and houses are by Hazel. The figures are from Hazel, Christian and Florian. Other terrain by me.  Most of the figures and vehicles are from Anglian miniatures. You can find the excellent range here : http://www.anglianminiatures.co.uk/
The SCW supplement will be in print very soon. I hope you enjoyed the report. The game was the best I had for some time. Thanks to my mates for a fun weekend in "the town that never was" DIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDI

Cheers
Björn

Great battle report.

What an amazing collection of figures, vehicles and terrain.
Its always nice to see figures from your own company painted so beautifully, and to see people having a really good game using them.
Congratulations to all involved with putting together the supplement, and this game, it really is quite impressive.

Bravo, Björn & co.

You make the SCW a very tempting prospect.

You know I realised that I didn't  know a thing about this conflict , who's side was what etc..

That report makes me want to find out more  :D

Things we learned on this weekend:

1. Lt. Hazel paints fantastic minis and makes even better terrain.
2. Driscoles and the others have a terrible, dirty but hilarious mind in coming up with names. Poliorketes is only some metaphorical yards behind with his scenario ideas.
3. I continue my great and valiant history of not hitting elephant-sized targets with explosive weapons at some twenty paces. Well, some continuity in it.

Superb report on a superb game. I hope we´ll do another one soon.

I guess 'Liberdad o muerte' is another must have T&T book!

... I've been trying to keep clear from La Guerra Civil, now there is no escape  :'(

PS: who makes those cows?

PS2: Hammer is right! the LAF really spoiled us today! :)
