Shiny. I really like your whole intent with this, keeping as much black as possible. All that fiddly detail and filigree you (justly) complain about, that would almost be expected to be picked out in brass or somesuch, looks excellent when it's all just black.

Although, is it 'just' black? Any quick scrub of grey, or something, or are the highlights just natural reflection?

I also like the blade on the axe. It's like red period GW but... classier!

The black isn't just black ! Photos don't quite show but it's a zenithal of grey over a black undercoat and then highlights are painted with as much contrast as possible. I then apply a strong wash/glaze (it behaves a bit like both) of black all over to tone things down and get a good result. It keeps the black dark but with contrats, I even pick raised areas again in a light grey to make it pop.

It's alright ! Rogue Trader is the name of the very first edition of warhammer 40000 (which you might be more familiar with by name at least) and which was more strongly RPG oriented rather than the wargame it later became, hence my love for NPCs and exotic characters.

here are a bunch of post-apoc zombies I've speed painted for a challenge with a friend, about 5 and a half hours to come up with that... i'll let you judge the worth of it !
At least they're painted and they'll be perfect for many types of games so i'm chuffed to have those done.

They are perfectly acceptable. A painted miniature is always better than an unpainted one. I recently painted 40 of these bad boys rather more quickly than my normal painting style. I now have a lovely shambling mob of zombies.

I completely sympathise with the idea. I love spending more time on characters but cannon (or should I say chainsaw) fodder need an appropriate care in my book.

I have to say your ability to blend all sorts of ranges and models together is quite impressive, it looks really cool thanks to the straight to the point approach !

I've also decided to pull my sleeves up and work on some terrain myself !
