Excellent painting. Love the difference in color with the lot. So are they like the riders of the apocalypse, but then in the Dredd universe?
(I know nothing about Dredd...and most things seem mighty silly for an outsider...just like Dr. Who :D :D)

Superb painting. The only thing putting me off getting the Dark Judges is because I know that, my painting skills being what they are, I won't be able to do them justice (so to speak ... )

All the Dark Judges looks superb. As for looking comic book-like, well isn't that the point. They are from a comic book.

Thanks for the nice feedback everyone :)

So are they like the riders of the apocalypse, but then in the Dredd universe?

Yes, sort of.  The Dark Judges are essentially demons from another dimension where they reasoned that killing all life would reduce the crime rate to zero, so they became undead and killed everyone.  They represent an exaggerated version of the MC1 Justice Department philosophy.

(I know nothing about Dredd...and most things seem mighty silly for an outsider...just like Dr. Who :D :D)

Dredds world is an exaggerated parody of the modern world, so extreme that even the cop uniform is immensely absurd.  It is a mixture of black humour, satire and comic book violence.  At its best it is insightful, clever, poignant, funny and exciting.

Doctor Who does more or less nothing for me by the way.  Beyond the fantastic theme tune I have very little interest in it.  It is entertaining in concept and poor in execution in my opinion.  But y'know, if people like it then thats fine too of course.

Superb painting. The only thing putting me off getting the Dark Judges is because I know that, my painting skills being what they are, I won't be able to do them justice (so to speak ... )

Well, nobody improves their painting by not painting :)  You could give it a go anyway, you are sure to learn something.

Thats true.  I suppose that what I mean is that I would like to be able to paint more realistic fire generally, but that in this case the effect is authentically true to source.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone.  Mr Saturday will have something new for us on Monday I expect.

This week it's the Citadel Judge Fear. There's a bit of a dark judge vibe going on at the moment.

That brings me up to three of the old time dark judges. Pretty obvious who I'll be working on next.

Thats a nice take on the Dark Judges whipping boy.

After many years of implied litter-runt status for Fear, it was interesting to see what the writer did to definitively lock that aspect of the character in Dreams of Deadworld recently.  Fears underdog status is slowly making him the Dark Judge that I now feel most inclined to root for.  He may yet have his day I reckon.

Whats the deal with the non-canon (AFAIK) moccasins I wonder?

Next week will almost certainly be the very first Citadel Judge Dredd model that I have ever painted.  Im looking forward to it.

No idea. As the first miniature version of Judge Fear you think they'd have paid more attention, but no, comfy slip-ons it is.

Those Dark Judges are looking rather amazing. This thread continues to inspire me, and has me looking at Judge Dredd comics once again. Thank you for that.

I can't recall who the sculptor was, but it was probably a Friday evening when Fear got his shoes sculpted.

#25 Rhode Island Red

A mid-eighties Citadel miniature today, the first old Citadel Dredd miniature that I have ever painted actually.  It was a fun model to work on.

The character of "Rhode Island Red" only appeared in a single Dredd story, in the Judge Dredd Annual 1981.  I stuck pretty closely to the palette as defined by the story.

Red appeared in recurring 2000AD promotional images for several years however, making him something of a poster boy for the mutants of the Cursed Earth.

The old Citadel Dredd range was 25mm rather than 28mm, so not all of the range really fit with my other models, so I dont have very many.  For things like mutants and robots and other less scale sensitive types, I am perfectly happy to mix them in.

The blog post is HERE for anyone who wants a look.  I reckon that the subject of next weeks submission from Mr Saturday is fairly predictable, but my next figure for this project will likely be another mutant.

Thanks for looking!
