Astro turf/fake grass uses?
« on: May 12, 2015, 11:47:24 AM »
My wife wants a new playgarden for the kids so she has been ordering samples of different types all over the place, over a dozen testpieces have arrived now and she's thinking about ordering more cause she can't make her mind up (sound familiar?). She asked if I was interested in the pieces when she is finished, which I am, I'm just not sure what to do with them? They look great for a jungle table I think, but at the moment they are rectangular 20 x15 cm (or sort of) pieces ranging from 20 to 50mm in height. How do I process these pieces into a nice field or jungle bit? Just cut and base?

It is this stuff >> http://www.tigerturf.nl/Contact/Gratis-kunstgras-sample-aanvragen.html

I'm looking for 20mm and 28mm ideas, thanks! Tutorials would even be better!

I'm sure I have seem a blog or similar where someone used fake grass samples for gaming, most likely jungle terrain pieces.

Yes you can cut and base. the more realistic version, will work for elephant grass, cane fields, above head high reeds or tall grass. Very useful stuff. The rubber backing is a bit of a bugger to cut. Requires either shears or a sharp stanley knife and a bit of muscle.

I ordered samples to use just for crops:

used here with 20mm terrain

and here with 28mm minis

If you dont want to keep it I'd be more then happy to take it off your hands

I have some of that stuff too, for eventual use. The two-tone stuff manages a far more natural look and yes, it seems like it would be great for tall buffalo grass or such.
