Depression hobos?
« on: June 13, 2015, 05:03:45 AM »
Having seen the old Citadel Gothic Horror range (it's from 1985-6) I realized I have no Depression-era hobos! And I'm not sure who does!

Here are the two from the Gothic Horror line:

Hobo

Down And Out

They're wonderful figures with loads of personality, but finding them let alone finding them for a reasonable price is a tall order. Surely someone else must have made some good hobos in the intervening 30 years? Anyone know of any?

There's a pack of down-and-outs in Dixon's gangster range.
Back from the dead, almost.

Seen that. They actually just look like normal civilians. That's still a useful pack though!

There's a couple in the London Victorian Civilians set from Blue Moon that may be suitable.

Some of the foundry old west range might not be a bad shout.

I have one of those down & outs doing nothing in the attic, make me an offer.  I will only say yes or no.

Cheers Svenn, PM sent.

There's two in the Blue Moon pack which might do as well. As for the West Wind Superfigs, it looks like they're no longer offered anyway.

Considering how closely the hobo is associated with the Dirty 30's, I'm seriously amazed there aren't more such figures.

Maybe model railroad people, less detailed, so you could paint the clothing to look however you want.  If you want some hobo atmosphere, read "The Street of No Return" by David Goodis.

Oh there's plenty of model railroad figure hobos, but yes the quality is subpar and more important they tend to be kind of bland and mannequin-like.

Civvies or squaddies was the idea.

I only just realised how acute this shortage is. I honestly never would have guessed that no one made any hobos or tramps, considering they're about as "30's" as any rugged adventurer, sinister fascist stormtrooper, or dashing aviatrix.

Say what you want about sinister fascist stormtroopers, they could cut a dash lol

I say if we're going for the typical 'look' it'll be dirty with lots of browns, not the most exciting for some to paint.
