The Sea Dragons: Chinese Pirate Crew

In this thread I would like to post pictures of the painted models for my new Chinese pirate crew. I wrote a post on my blog about purchasing the models from Curteys Miniatures and Foundry and my experience with that. Also there's a brief discussion of available junk models.

Okay, I have finished the first pirate. Please forgive the bad quality of the photo. It's really dark around here at the moment. I promise to supply better photos in the future! 

Also I'm not quite happy with how he turned out. I need to improve the faces in the future. Anyways, here he is:

Aside from the flesh on the hands and face I think this looks fantastic.

As with the others, I really like the jacket.

It looks like you are running a Blog, uploading images to that Blog, then trying to link to that image within the Blog...

Get yourself an account on a dedicated image hosting site - I use Photobucket.  (You can still use your Blog - in fact it will be even easier because you can post an image in your Photobucket account just once, then link to it in your Blog and in forums)

If you don't want to do that, then post a link here to your blog, rather than just the image within it.

Blogspot/Blogger won't let you hotlink to images on your blog that they host themselves. I've noticed that in the past myself.

If you are in the habit of wanting to hotlink to images on your own blog, you can host them elsewhere instead (such as with the site Orctrader suggested) and use the Add an image from the Web option rather than Add an image from your computer when putting photos on Blogspot.

I have painted some Curteys pirates...




Also I painted the first boat. I choose to order some of the Games of War ships. They are really great for their prices (and come at free shipping). The cannons are from Thomarillion and were bought at the SPIEL 08 in Essen, Germany.

Well you've done a nice job with the paintwork on the figures, and the ship and guns look great.

Personally, I don't think the Curteys models are a patch on the Foundry ones - different style and weird proportions. Not very appealing figures

Fair. The Curteys minis are indeed a lot less detailed and especially the hands are often a sorta clumsy sculpting job. Despite them being about the same size as the Foundry ones they look a lot smaller... probably due to their rather big heads and thin bodies?

As I had some problems painting the Foundry Chinese (see above) for whatever reason (spontaneous brain death?) I think I managed to "recover" when moving on the Curteys. So now I do like the Curteys because the paint jobs turned out better so I owe them some confidance. As soon as I now paint some of the remaining Foundry models this feeling will probably cease...
