Fun game the other day. We tried out a fully themed Lair of the Orc Lord adventure. I think the only downside is that the difficulty really doesn't scale well - Greenskins suffer a lot against even a level 3 party, and in hindsight I think we should have used Big Boss stats for Gorgut. Still, it was nice to complete a dungeon without being almost killed in every room for a change lol

Also got to use Growler for the first time since I painted him. He actually scored the biggest hit against the party in the whole game, but then got one-shotted by the Wizard, as is usually the case with dangerous gribblies.

Beautiful photos from the game! Thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

Having a regular gaming group to play this with after all these years has really made a difference. I'm much more motivated now to paint models so we can have themed dungeons (hence my recent Skaven push, and now the Orcs and Goblins frenzy).

Thank you so much. I've maintained this thread for well over a decade, because this really is my life-long pet project. I've had some great support and convos here over the years, which keeps me motivated to paint more!

And another Orc is done! The classic metal Gorgut means that all the character models for Lair of the Orc Lord are now finished. I'm currently painting up a few more Orcs to use as Big 'Uns, then I think I'll start painting some more undead so we can play through the Catacombs of Terror.

And the rear view, although I decided to go for a plain colour on the cloak. I went for purple not just because it seemed like the logical contrasting colour, but because I figured Gorgut would want a regal cloak because he thinks he's da king!

(These photos came out a bit *too* good... Now I've spotted some mistakes that I'll have to go back and fix. Curses! lol )

Great work!

Unfortunately our Gorgut lost his sword in favor of a bolt pistol during a period when one of my brothers and I thought we were going to have enough orks to play 40k- that army never got anywhere near the size needed to fight a handful of space marines, so it was a bit of a bust (and a prime candidate for the "regrettable conversions" thread I still haven't started). I'll have to see if I can find him and salvage him for some proper questing... must be in a box somewhere...

Positively lovely work on the horns!

I was a bit worried about the horns, because I've never done the reverse scheme before (light at the base, dark at the tip). I always thought it looked more realistic, but for some reason found it trickier to paint. I think I finally cracked it though!

Actual work in progress shot. This is a colour test for a bunch of Ghosts (actually "Nighthaunt Chainrasps" from GW, which is a daft name IMO but hey-ho). With thanks to Juan Hidalgo for the recipe - his ghosts and ethereal metal tutorials formed the basis of this colour scheme. Very happy with this, so I think I'll go ahead and paint the whole group this colour.

I'm particularly pleased with the ghostly OSL effect on those Fenris temple bases. Having the resin details makes it really easy to wash, glaze and highlight.

EDIT: Forgot to share my 'head canon' about how the ghosts work. I figured that the Necromancers use skulls from the catacombs to bring spirits back into being. So the skull is a physical object, as are the chains and weapons that get bound to them when they appear. I was inspired by Gunther Larenscheld from way back at the start of this thread, with his penchant for skull-fondling:

Plus this excellent board tile from Catacombs of Terror:

Very nice! Those skelli-ghosts (why didn't they call them that, I wonder?) are some of the AoS models that have always tempted me, not to get into AoS, but to find ways of using those models in our games. Great paint job!
