Decals

HELLO
One question.
Last time i used decals is nearly 20 years ago...
Today i recived my ks incursion stuff.
Including those lovly decals.
Minis are already varnished.
Placed decals..works fine.
Used for the first time decal softener..works great.
No finally my question 
Is it recommended or even necassary to respray/varnish the minis.

Decals can flake over a long time, and of course they can get damaged like any part of the model.

I have always varnished again after putting the decals on, just to be safe.

Simple answer is always varnish over the decals so they do not flake.  I tend to over complicate the process by painting the decal with Future floor polish prior to weathering, and varnishing.  Linkey:http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html.  The Future allows me to weather the whole model with the decals in place and the varnish hides the shiny created by the floor polish.  Hope that gives you some more ideas or another option.

I 'sandwich' my decals as well.  Gloss coat, decal, more gloss.

Same here : gloss where the decals have to placed, decals, gloss over the entire model and finaly a coat matt to finish it off.

Gloss to prep before laying the decals is a basic must. Otherwise they don't adhere properly and you get "silvering" where there's sheets of tiny air particles trapped under the decal by the "grit" of the non-gloss spots.

I've actually heard of some modelers using Future instead of water to float the decal in place. Supposedly it makes for really bulletproof adhesion, but the downside is you can't use a setting solution to snug it down or blend the edges.
