Really like your painting style.

Don't know how to describe it exactly, kinda "streaky" but it gives a really nice textured look to your mini's.

Any thoughts on technique for us novices?

Hey Ray,
actually you're right it's streaky. The technique is a bit like hatching (I'm not sure if that's the right word-blame it on my dictionary) like when you're drawing a sketch and fill it with short and fast strokes in an abstract way because you have no time to do it real or just want it the way-like in some kinds of comics.
Normaly I paint with Foundry colours because they work very good in blending the 3 Colour tones into each other and it's less time consuming than mixing your own palette.
So I start with the shade colour and to get even more depth I go over with an ink or wash (at the moment mostly with GW's Devlin Mud). Then I start hatching with the shade colour again, next the middle colour and at least the highlight tone,at that moment I'm changing to a smaler brush,do shorter strokes which I concentrate more on the edges and all the other parts that need some higlighting.
Well that's all,piece of cake,isn't it ;D ;)

Looks great!

I just used a similar technique to paint the skin on 'Tonka' from Black Hat - to represent the muscles under his skin. My result is not as convincing as yours, though...  :)

Those minis really look wonderful.

But there is one member missing.  We need to add Digwiddow's quarterwit nephew - the "Little Master".

Since a while I'm busy with the Stuff for the Tactica and so I wasn't able to do much here, but I've read in another thread that HLBS is dropping their 28mm range. So I found out that they have some nice animals for my Africa project. And here are some really lovable chaps :D

I realise that in reality they are not pleasant creatures, but I've always had a soft spot for hyenas. They look really cute to me  :?

Your models are beautifully done  8)

Again very good job.

Just an idea: If you can hold a couple of packs of Mega Miniatures flamingoes will add more colour in your Africa!
