Frostgrave Painting Question
« on: 01 August 2015, 04:22:36 PM »
I might be being a bit thick but is Frostgrave just fantasy figures on a snow base? I'm sort of thinking about painting up some figures for ebay and it  seems a popular game at the moment.
Well I've lead an evil life, so they say, but I'll outrun the Devil on judgement day.

Since there is no emphasize on tribes and races, pretty much every figure is suitable, as long as they are more or less humanoid. It might be tricky to include Orks or Halflings in a fluffy way without houserules, though. But even dwarves and elves are easy, I guess.
Ideal for starting and choosing/buying/re-painting/re-using any miniature you like to play with.
best wishes

I think the whole point of that system is to have a game that anyone can pick up and play. You don't even need to have cold weather themed models (I'm setting my games in the ashlands of Morrowind, i.e. not a piece of snow for miles). If you want to go for ones specific to the setting though aye having snow bases and models dressed for cold weather would be suitable. Saying that though the wizards aren't all dressed for the weather (there's one in desert clothes), so that doesn't mean your models should be either.

As others have already stated the possibilities are endless, but cold weather gear (or at least long sleeves, etc.) would be appropriate for the canon setting.  It also looks like they like to use a lot of lanterns, torches, and rope, judging from the Frostgrave Soldiers sprue.

While a winter-themed base would be appropriate, it should be noted that the official line of miniatures has their integral bases painted in a flagstone pattern without a trace of snow.  It's probably just for aesthetic reasons, but I wonder if there will be expansions set within dungeons of Frostgrave in the future (I hope so!).
