Blood Feud! Dark Ages Lion Rampant AAR.
« on: 10 August 2015, 06:16:37 PM »
I introduced my nine year-old son to Lion Rampant a couple of weeks ago...

It's quite long but the rest is on my blog. My boy loved the game and picked it up pretty easily...managing to beat his poor old man...again!

Getting them hooked while they're young, eh?  ;)

Looks great! I may have to steal your idea of using Éowyn as a Warlord...

I really must get around to giving the Dark Age variant a go!

Great story and great figures.   :-*

I also have those Artizan Vikings and Eowyn.
In fact, I used the Artizan Vikings and Carolingians to make by LOTR "by the book" Rohan force.

Fantastic.
I like your use of Vikings. I never thought of it (being braiwashed by Saga) but, I think LR would be a very good set of rules for depicting Dark Ages warfare.

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Saga but LR seems to be a viable alternative.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Introduce your children to wargaming and historical re-enactment, and they'll never have money for drugs!  ;)

I have been thinking just the same thing about Lion Rampant and Schiltron=Shieldwall. Now, if I ever get around to getting my Dark Age warriors done...  ::)
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Nice AAR! I like the WI331 upgrade. Just renaming units and adding new boasts seems not much but gives the game the feel of Dark Ages. However, even without it I started building my Anglo-Saxon Fyrd. :-)

Thanks, chaps!

Looks great! I may have to steal your idea of using Éowyn as a Warlord...

I'm afraid I can't really claim credit for the idea as I pinched it from someone else on the LAF forums who did one for his SAGA games, I believe.

I agree. Just goes to show how easily adaptable the rules are!

I introduced my boy to wargaming via In Her Majesty's Name about 6 months ago...I was a bit worried that at 8 years-old he was too young but he's really taken to it and will happily play games that last a couple of hours...and win! Now I just need to get  my 6 year-old daughter involved!
