They're gorgeous, lovely paintwork on something so small.

Excellent paint job!  I always loved that German "ambush" pattern.   ;)

Wow!  I thought they were 15mm at first glance.  Lovely brushwork and just enough contrast.

I’ve read somewhere, can’t remember where, that Tiger 1 were never painted in "ambush pattern camo"… I wonder if that’s true… Anyhow, these look amazing, that’s really nice work especially on 1/285th models! 8)

While probably the case (the factory applied pattern came in the second half of '44 after production had swithed to the Tiger IIs), there were still instances of the Tiger I fighting with Tiger IIs (in Normandy and also Schwere Panzer Kompanie 'Hummel' during the Ardennes offensive).

That said, there's enough room for interpretation, as field modifications to camo could've been applied too.

Thanks guys!

I haven't found pictures of Tiger Is with ambush ... but ... these are a commission and when I discussed these, the client and I agreed on ambush on all the big cats. Hey, it looks cool if nothing else  lol

They were fun to paint, but the dots ... the dots ...  o_o

My understanding is that all German camo in WWII except the Ambush pattern were applied in the field.  The tanks were shipped in grey or later dunklegelb and painted by their units.  The dunklegelb tanks were actually shipped with cans of the brown and green paint used for camo and an air brush to apply it.  Some used the airbrush, some used regular paint brushes, some even slopped it on with a mop.  The ambush pattern, though, was applied in the factory on the Tiger IIs and IIRC one other armored vehicle (can't recall offhand).  Unfortunately, there's no official records of who painted their vehicles how, other that often hard to attribute period photos.

On the other hand, since it was applied in the field you get all sorts of different patterns with the basic yellow, brown, green colors during the late war.  There's nothing to say a commander who fancied the Ambush pattern might not have his men paint their other vehicles that way!

Your last point - my point exactly.

And the other AFV was the Panther (as grant has expertly done).

The customer is really going to have nice miniatures to field.

Yes, lots of pics of Panthers in ambush.

Thanks again guys.

Wirbelwinds (not in ambush!) will be done today.

https://cama4.wordpress.com - I always put updates on my blog too, and I have a "portfolio" post there where I keep track of what I've painted for the GHQ models catalogue. I've done WW2, modern, naval - Great War, WW2 and modern, and some 10mm Naps for them.
