Gothic Horror Gaming Table
« on: 08 January 2007, 05:43:28 PM »
I'm thinking about a Gothic Horror gaming table. Not sure about the colour of the ground. My usual Desert Ochre isn't really suitable. Grey? Hmm...Dark Brown? What do oyu think about?

Dark purple. Seriously. Work your way up to umber and sienna colors.

What'll happen is that the reddening effect of the purple will make everything look like it is illuminated by a very dark and very red sunset. You can use your red-brown palette with it, and it'll make it look very red and very scary. What's worse, it'll remind people of something living and they won't be able to place their finger on it.

Friends of ours did a faux finish on the walls of their living room with a dark purple base. When it was all done, the room was really unsettling. "It's like being in a giant liver!" someone said. They repainted it shortly afterwards.

The Question is will you use the Table also for other games ?
because all your figures have beige bases but a Gothic tabel should dark brown with a bit of black .
I also would make the table in a autumn style.

The other nice thing about purple is that grey and white objects seem to jump off the table. Imagine a dark brown forest with one dead white tree.

Nobody will want to touch the tree.

Try making a small test board first. Say, 60cm by 60cm. If it doesn't work, mail it to me and I'll use it for Gloire.

I can imagine a purple table for Gothic stuff, but purple table for Gloire? Pete, i think you need a vacation from whatever you do at the moment

Grimm, yes, it should be a table only for Gothic Horror. 1,20x1,20 was my thought. My minis arent a problem, i would rebase them or i'm going to paint new lots with new base colour. Autumn sounds not bad too. What would you take for it? And how i get a "dark brown with a bit of black"? How does that look? Any references? Pics?

I think autumnal colours would work - dark red-browns with lots of dead trees and withered plants.

Definately not grey!
