I have been looing through this post and have been dazzled by the amazing brushwork and basing, really this thread is very impressive. I may have missed it but I have to ask what ruleset are the figures based for? Thans for sharing your work its inspiring

Thanks matey.

The basing is actually agnostic  and on 40mm x 40mm to get that feeling of claustrophobic desperation. My actual basing is generally rules agnostic; or rather as rules agnostic as I can manage. These units could be used for WAB, Swordpoint, Impetus, Dux Bellorum and various other sets- just by adding or deducting a row of bases, or removal of one or two etc.

My days of rebasing are behind me now; at least that's the plan! lol

Absolutely stunning and a dictionary worth of other superlatives...

Indeed, they are annoyingly good.

Thanks. Those old Gripping Beast Shieldwall models are classics. Related post to come on this thread when I get the time. :)

Finally, I have the time to drop the Shieldwall markers post!

As usual, there are plenty of pictures, including the mass effect of having a few markers in front of a few units, and more detail on my Just Add Water Blog here:
http://justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.com/2022/10/anglo-danish-shieldwall-markers.html

As some may have  gleaned, I'm not really a fan of clutter, chits or card/paper on the tabletop and to that end I have been slowly adding a number of Gripping Beast Shieldwall Markers from their Mid/Late Saxon range:
https://www.grippingbeast.co.uk/SAX09_Saxon_Ceorl_Shieldwall_4--product--2838.html

I was not that impressed with just one marker placed in front of a single unit, they seemed to command the view of the unit, dominating the scene. It was interesting to pull a few units out and get an idea of what they  will look like en masse, when placed on front of a six/seven unit line on the tabletop.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the results, they definitely look better to the fore of several units and not quite so dominant which was a relief!  :D

Shieldwall Markers (The latest two, the tally is now three so plenty more to paint up):

These little bases were put together as I took a breather for a week during The Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge which I have been enjoying. The idea of punctuating the Thematic Byzantine posts with some smaller mini projects has really helped me keep focused on the main item and if the weather changes so I can get my bloomin' varnishing done I will have posted three mini projects as well as five Thematic cavalry posts by Monday next week. Not bad going for someone who usually paints at a glacial pace!

There are many more pictures of each of the three bases on my Just Add Water Blog here:

Here's the type of thing you can expect:

Cheers :)

Blimey. A week you say? If I could knock out three bases as good as that in a lifetime I'd be made up.
Base 2 is wonderfully cinematic. You can almost hear the dialogue. And I'm really impressed with the freehand wyvern shields in this thread. Are the banners LBM?
