Castingroom Miniatures Darkest Africa
« on: 01 October 2015, 01:52:09 PM »
Just saw the announcement in my news feed...I have to say some of the miniatures look dire...but some are definitely going to be considered.

The zulus are based on darkest Africa dollies apparently,.

I think some of the British like good but most are too chunky/badly sculpted.

The Zulus are great. Copplestone DA figures with a bit of titivation by another hand. IMHO, much nicer figures than the 'official' Foundry Zulus.

And here, intermixed with some Copplestone Ngoni...

The British, however, are not great. Not in the least.

Empress Brits are the cream of the crop.

The British look like Planet of The 1885 Apes.

There are a few nice minis here and there but tbh there isn't a single pack where I like one or two of the miniatures and since they don't do bits orders methinks I will be saving my money.

These aren't new miniatures. They've been out for a few years now. They can't be new if even I have got around to painting some of them...

So Castingroom Miniatures are just Foundry?

How confusing. Wonder why they felt the need for an offshoot with a new name.

They don't think the Casting Room stuff is good enough or in the "Foundry Style" I believe.

Oh I see. It's all that stuff from the last days of "old Foundry", when all their old sculptors had jumped ship and quality and style took a turn... for the bizarre. "Classic" Foundry is still being sold as Foundry.

The one who can understand the business politic at Foundry and Casting Room is an Holy Man !

At each time, they surprise me with their commercial and production rules....

Any way there is some good sculptings in the Casting Room range.

The Zulus are surprisingly good compared to the Brits, but, sadly, it would take somebody to bring out a decent set of plastic Zulus for me to go down that road.

As it stands, I am much more inclined to get 1/72 plastics or 15mm if I should decide to play this particular period.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

I'm with Plynkes, I've had these painted for years(not anywhere as good as him and Captain Blood, actually not even in the same plane of existence as theirs lol)
They are Copplestone DA dollies with "fancy bits" sculpted on.Hard to even tell the difference really. The special regiment guys are  really cool especially if your not using them as historical Zulus and just mix them all around like I did.

No idea about the British but they don't look that bad to me.Not empress quality but hardly crap.

Hmmm... it seems that Warlord has slipped a couple of sets under my radar... Must have a closer look...

there's maybe one or two packs I might consider, for AZW I put most of my money in Empress Miniatures.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.
